Owner description: Often mentioned in local magazines/guides and international travel guides as 'the best pub in glasgow' - it is a bar/pub (no food). Alternative music played. Locals. Art deco interior which has remained the same for years and years and years. Hope you add it, it has so much character.

Great place with genuine Art Deco features. Very respectable clientèle and BBQ meats available, cooked to order. Highly recommended. Prices are average but value for money.

Genuine Art Deco a bit like Roganos Bar but it still has a pulse and the drink is a league cheaper.
Close to charring cross and the clubs.

One of the best pubs in Glasgow. Great punters, great staff, great music, great atmosphere. Been going here for 15 yrs or more now & always home in on it if I'm in the area. Clientele-wise, you get allsorts. Art-School crowd, musicians, old-guy regulars (like me!), some suits on a Friday, hipsters (whatever they are), occasional celeb perfomers, due to the proximity to the King's Theatre down the road - that's why they call it 'The Variety'. Never had a bad night in here. Apparently, Badly Drawn Boy played a free acoustic set in here one Friday T time, several years back - I was washing my hair that night.

Glasgow never ceases to amaze me. You live in it all you're life and you still find new places to eat and drink. I've been past the Variety Bar on countless occassions, being a regular visitor to Sleazy's just up from it.
I recently heard good things about the place and decided to give it a go one afternoon with my girlfriend. Don't be put off by the outside! Inside I was met by a deliciously shabby art deco interior, the bar flanked by an assortment of interesting characters for whom this is clearly a regular haunt. The large fish tank was particularly nice.
The only downside is the sweet wafting scent of toilet, which could be easily fixed. I aim to revisit the place at nightime and I have a feeling I won't be disappointed.

Frequent the variety bar quite regularly. It's much better than all the crap student bars and chain pubs that litter this part of Glasgow. Interesting decor inside and a good selection of beers on tap and in the fridge. It might be a little more expensive than some of its neighbours that offer 'promos' round about, but it's worth the extra for sure.
