“Stylish house, stylish cafe!”
Reviewed July 26, 2012

We rang the House for an Art Lover to check they were open and to ask about the cafe and they suggested that we book a table as it could get busy. It was busy when we arrived and we had been given a lovely table by the window overlooking the garden. I would say the service was up to restaurant level rather than cafe. Wonderful service from friendly personnel. The cafe was beautifully decorated with lovely orange exotic flowers. I had the warm scotch egg salad with a big slice of blue cheese and I shared a portion of home made bread with my friend. The bread was soft and freshly made. The men had steak with cheese in focaccia bread with chips. Lovely place to go with any combination of family, friends or just a group of ladies. The toilet is also very stylish and immaculately clean. You don't have to go round the House for an Art lover to access the cafe. There is also a very good shop attached for a browse.

“a great way to end your visit to the House for an Art Lover”
Reviewed July 22, 2012

After visiting the House for an Art Lover, what better way to finish your visit than in the Art Lovers Café! The food is of a very high quality, with a good selection of fresh food, well presented. They also have a set menu, which is good value and helpful staff...
The only negative I would say is that it can be quite noisy when it’s busy but I’d rather that than there be no one there at all!

“small portions, not as good as before”
Reviewed July 12, 2012

I have been to House of an Art Lover many times: the cooking is of an excellent standard but their portion size have become a joke. I dont normally write restaurant reviews but felt compelled to post this one. I recently had the 3 course lunch menu. The vegetable pastry puff was literally the size of a small badge with one zucchini slice on the top of it. It is the smallest starter I have ever been served. The main was on the smallish side as well but the deserts were tiny. For a 15-pound 3-course menu I dont expect to leave hungry.

“Wedding Party”
Reviewed June 26, 2012

We were part of a group of 50 guests for a wedding. Staff great, food great, location great.

Poached salmon to start, nicely presented and tasted nice.
Chicken Balmoral with mash and veg for mains, really good and well portioned
Creme brulee to finish could perhaps have been slightly better but still tasted nice.

We would definately go back for another meal.

“Ladies who do lunch”
Reviewed June 22, 2012

Actually it's a place that is full of people who enjoy good food within a very special setting and a beautiful outlook, so for everyone. The staff are very knowledgeable, the food is varied and there are healthy choices along with the excellent desserts. All in all a place I choose to go to at least once a month to meet family, friends and colleagues. I often take visitors to Glasgow as it's such an amazing place, inside and out, designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and made to perfection, the food too!
