“Memorable hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2013

Memorable hotel. I must mention Amy at breakfast who was so helpful, professional and courteous. Amy's interaction brightened up our day! The hotel is on picturesque Blythswood Square. The financial district is a short stroll down the hill. Interestingly the historic building was the original headquarters of the RASC thus is grand and memorable.

Stayed at the hotel for our wedding anniversary, the room exceeded our expectations, spa facilities 1st class, overall a wonderful experience. The staff were so welcoming & obviously well selected for a 5 star hotel. Will definitely return & recommend to our family & friends.

Room Tip: We had room 360, no noise at all which for being in the city was brilliant

We wanted to celebratate a big anniversary in style and couldn't have picked a better hotel. The decor is fantastic, the staff helpful and incredibly profesisonal and the room had everything you could want - including a marble bathroom with sliding door so you can enjoy a bubble bath whilst watching the TV! A separate shower cubicle wtih rain shower was a real luxury and the toiletries are all organic.
Even standard rooms are a decent size, with comfortable beds, proper bed sheets and heavy duty curtains that keep out the bright summer dawns you get in Scotland!
A well stocked mini bar with wine, chocolates, spirits, snacks and juice is great for those in-between moments (although a bit pricey!) but they also provide a kettle with tea, coffee and hot chocolate.
We ate in the hotel that evening, which was great too as the food is not incredibly elaborate but excellent quality and well cooked. My husband struggles to find good quality steak that is cooked rare but was pleasantly surprised by what he was served and when I asked for a vegetarian alternative to proscuitto for my scallops, they delivered a well-cooked vegetable terrine. Good choice of decent wines too - by the glass, carafe and bottle - not just the usual chardonnays or pinot grigios.
A couple of minor disappointments - we booked our stay through a late booking website and while the hotel had obviously got the booking, they had not accommodated my request for a front view so we had to make do with the courtyard, which isn't that attractive.
Secondly, check-out time is 11am which is a bit early for a hotel like this, where many of the guests will be staying for special reasons such as a wedding, anniversary, birthday etc. A slightly later check out of 12 noon would make a huge difference, especially if breakfast was extended from 10am until 11am. Other than that, it was an excellent stay and we will certainly be back!

Room Tip: Request a room with a front view as soon as you book to avoid the courtyard view!

We enjoyed a wonderful afternoon tea with a glass of fizz in the salon. Delicious freshly cut sandwiches on different breads, cream scones and little cakes with tea. Ashamed to say we polished off the lot but no regrets! Staff were extremely courteous and friendly and the surroundings very elegant and comfortable.

Stayed at Blythswood Square to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary and loved every minue of it!!

The service from the moment we arrived was second to none. The staff could not have been more attentive and accommodating.

Our room was lovely and comfortable but the best feature was the bathroom! The bath and shower were amazing!!

We used the bar on the 2nd floor on both nights and the cocktails are yummy!! Best strawberry daquiri's I have ever had!!

Spa was also fab and the staff made you feel very welcome.

Only reason I didnt give the hotel 5 starts is the food - everything else in the hotel was amazing but the food was just ok. Both evening meals and breakfast just didnt live up to the standard elsewhere in the hotel.

Apart from that very small point we will def be back!!

The hotel occupies the former quarters of the Royal Scottish Automobile Club on a green square not far from the heart of Glasgow. It's been thoroughly and stylishly refurbished. Our room was large and well-appointed. One gold star to the designer of the desk areas, who put electrical outlets capable of taking three sorts of plugs into the walls. No need to mess with adaptors! A boo to whoever designed the loo, though. The usual difficulty figuring out how to get the water in the shower to the desired temperature. And there's no mirror over the sink--just a little circular makeup mirror off to the side This may work for a woman re-doing her mascara, but I didn't like it for shaving.

I stayed here with my husband for his 60th Birthday We stayed on a half board basis which for some of the prices of the room only was a good deal We loved the room (a classic room) bed was great shower excellent great bath and decor was lovely
Loved the spa
Service slow between courses but staff attentive
Loved soup and sweet from Market menu didn't really like roast beef (but personal taste )
Breakfast was ok
Although many pluses for this hotel did notice some thinks didn't like
Felt some places in hotel could have done with touch up of paint some doors badly marked esp in
The 1st floor bar and in foyer as well didn't like the foods smell in restaurant as you entered (fried food )noticed it throughout day didn't like seating in first floor bar though seating nice and comfy in foyer overall nice place could do with some improvements
