“Great Food & Service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2013

Our first time ever in Glasgow's second oldest restaurant recently was a real delight. Courteous but unobtrusive service complimented by a substantial menu with both depth and variety. Range of prices to suit all budgets, including a pre-theatre. Downstairs is their sister restaurant Shandon Belles; didn't try it but the menu looked down to earth and honest. Would strongly recommended giving Two fat ladies at The Buttery a try.

“Superb!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2013

We were staying at the Hilton Glasgow and founded this restaurant just 5-10 mins walk away. OK, it's a bit of a surprise as it seems sandwiched in between M8 and a residential housing area but wait until you get in ... Beautifully put out (classic furniture, white table cloths, staff in traditional waiting garb), friendly and helpful staff and a menu of lovely choices. The food came quickly and was presented perfectly. I totally disagree that it is overpriced. Yes, it's not a value-dinner but the portions are ample, very flavoursome and vegetables, bread, petit-four were all included.

Can't recommend highly enough!

“Fabulous, we'll be back....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 6, 2013

This is one of the best restaurants we have eaten in the UK. It was pricey but in our opinion it was worth it. The ambience was a cross between pub, dark with booths and a French Bistro. The food was really fabulous, we had scallops and pigeon both entree's were served perfectly. All of the waitstaff seem to be working in unison making you were being taken care of without obtrusive. No comment on desert since we didn't try any but again there was a nice variety of items. There wine list was substantial. Take a taxi and they will call one for you when you finish your evening.

“Over-priced”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2013

Beware - this restaurant is not within easy walking distance of anywhere. It is situated in a the middle of what appears to be a high rise estate, next to the M8 flyover. I'd suggest taking a cab. However, once there you are greeted with a very well appointed restaurant, with attentive and diligent staff. The interior is dark, a mix between French bistro and Scottish - which is reflected in the food.
A menu which favours meat and fish is always to my taste, but we found that excellent cuts of meat were smothered with thick sauces. The scallops, which should be a Scottish speciality, were especially disappointing - in a buttery sauce that negated the crisp exterior/soft interior of freshly fried seafood. A risotto of seafood was better, as were the excellent steaks - though again with the thick an unnecessary sauce. Two of is shared just one dessert, and even the waiter agreed it was a misfire - an 'Iced Grand Marnier Souffle' which was not a souffle at all, but was more like an ice cream. There was no lightness, and after all the heavy sauces was impossible for two of us to finish.
Be prepared to pay over the odds for this - £140 for three of us (plus service), sharing just one bottle of wine.

“A fantastic meal in a beautiful restauraunt in a very "urban" location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2013

Had a fantastic meal here. It is indeed equal first with "One Devonshire" as others have told me since i posted that One Dev was the best. To serve up such excellent food on a Monday night when it is quiet is a measure of a very well run kitchen and quality chefs. It is onlya few quid more than any number of desperately poor restaurants in the Merchant City area. Sure it is in an odd location off the beaten track but in the city center so guess what get a taxi and have a ball. This is a brilliant restaurant.
