Lovely special meal on a Saturday night with special friends. On the internet the price was £23.95 each for two courses but was charged £24.95.
Several other price discrepancies were noted. Was charged for bottle of sparkling water which we did not have. Coffees were nice but much dearer than that advertised on their website. I chose not to argue about the bill in front of our very dear friends but may not return to La Lanterna.
Be Ware. No Italians seem to work here?

Near Glasgow Central station we were looking for somewhere to eat on a Friday night. I didn't want to walk far from our hotel (Alexander Thompson) so we stopped at La Lanterna. It didn't look very promising, down stairs into the cellar. How wrong we were. The service was absolutely excellent. We were delighted to see table cloths; in general we don't eat in restaurants which have very little sound deadening. My diary entry reads: It was packed and it was brilliant. Wine was good, bread and butter on the table. I had fresh ravioli with aubergine and gorganzola, followed by scallops and chorizo kebabs on orange and lemon leaves. We couldn't resist dessert. My tiramisu was the lightest and most delicious ever (and that includes in Italy). suspected it would be the best meal we had in our 10 days in Scotland and it was!

Another enjoyable lunch, and the first for a few weeks. Booked online the previous night, and greeted with a glass of prosecco on arrival. The lunch menu has changed slightly in recent months appears shorter but still good value at £15.95 for 3 courses, only disappointment was the sea bass main course only one very small fillet, well cooked but I think the portion should be two two fillets if they are that small.

Having never heard of La Lanterna before, I went for dinner as part of a party of five people, on the recommendation of a weekly customer. While the restaurant lacks a view onto the bustling streets of Glasgow, due to the fact that it is entirely underground (apart from the entrance), you are immediately greeted with a warm and welcoming ambience. This welcoming feeling was added to by the friendly staff and involved manager of the restaurant.

Varied menu of both food and drink, offering many classic Italian dishes; meat, fish and pasta as well as a good selection of Italian wines, beers and ciders. Complementary bread was freshly baked and refilled regularly until starters and mains were delivered.
The pasta dishes were well portioned and piping hot on arrival. The bacon in my Carbonara was very lean and cooked well and the sauce was of similar quality.

As a larger group we were seated in a secluded corner of the restaurant, which meant slightly less background noise but also a feeling of less attention from the waiting staff. Private rooms were also available, should you want an even quieter setting. Drinks were served promptly by several waiters but time taken for food to be delivered and then empty plates taken away was less prompt. However, these delays were not so long as to cause any real problem to the evening and one can hardly blame the staff considering how busy the restaurant was. At both the start and the end of the meal we were greeted by the manager, who had obviously taken care to put us in a suitable place for the group.
Food and drink was not cheap but given the quality of both it was definitely worth it.

Parking outside is difficult because there is no dedicated car park but it is easy enough to find space on the surrounding streets to park.

With food close to as good as that found in Italy accompanied by very helpful and friendly staff, it was an incredibly enjoyable evening!
