While having a beer at a pub (imagine that) the bartender overheard our conversation about indian food for dinner and suggested that we try Charcoals, literally across the street. Ran over in the rain and popped in to find myself staring through a sliding window directly into the kitchen. The maître d', seemed to take offense that I dare look in the kitchen. Once we were seated Ali explained that the chef is "very shy" and has even injured himself when distracted by onlookers. Which leaves me with 2 thoughts 1) so close the window and 2) WHAT DOES THIS CHEF HAVE TO BE SHY ABOUT?!!!!! Some of the best curry in Glasgow emanates from his kitchen!
We started with traditional papa-dons and accruements, an order of veggie pakoras and some raita. Ali brought some extra crisps and a regional chick pea and yoghurt mix that filled us up before the mains came. Korma and Tika masala, some pilau rice and a couple slices of naan. Good friends, good food and reasonable prices. Throw me out of your kitchen anytime!
