“Great Food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2013

We had a gorgeous meal here a while back.

Lovely, cozy feel to the place. The food is very nice. From memory I ate the steak and trio of desserts - very nice indeed. Highly recommended.

I would however like to mention the one male member of staff who came across very stroppy, I believe he was conducting the seating of the dinners. Thankfully he didn't come near our table.

All other staff very pleasant.

“Decidedly average”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2013

Having enjoyed dining in La Vallee Blanche over the years our last visit left us disappointed. An excellent French restaurant is now decidedly average. The food was indifferent, the service glacial and the décor tired. We won't return.

“Unpretentious, well-cooked food: especially good for Sunday lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 17, 2013

I have eaten at La Valle Blanche a number of times. The style is French, but with local ingredients. The service is friendly and knowledgable, the range of wines good, and the atmosphere cosy. I have never had a poor meal here; the food is always good, often very good. The crowd is mixed, but generally 'sophisticated'. The place seems to fill up later at lunchtime and the evenings, so an earlier arrival would seem to be a good idea if you haven't booked. Sunday lunch and early evening menus are good value. I would certainly recommend this well-run establishment to any visitor.

“Classic French Cuisine”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2013

I've lunched in La Vallee Blanche twice in recent weeks. On each occasion the food has been first class and the service pleasant and unobtrusive.

For the quality of food the value is fantastic.

They have an interesting wine list and staff who are knowledgeable on the subject

“Could do Better”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2013

We booked a table for a birthday treat on the basis of two past visits when we pitched up without a reservation and were knocked back.
Imagine our surprise when we arrived at 7.30 and the restaurant was still half empty at 8 o'clock.
The straightened economic climes might have had a hand something to do with the empty tables (in fairness all but 2 tables had diners by 9.30) but I suspect part of the reason is that this restaurant is trading on past glories.
Why do I say this?
Well, one would expect a French restaurant to understand wines, but when we asked the waiter what he would recommend to go with the Foie Gras - which was room temperature when it ought to be chilled - he didn't know. After going away to ask 'the manager' the wine that was brought back was a Sauternes, not bad, but a tad too sweet, certainly for my taste.
The main course of lamb was delicious, as was the Chinon to accompany it.
So, a good restaurant with good food but not quite 'fine dining', a few improvements to detail and it will be there.
