“Ambrosia, Food of the Gods!”

My wife and I were on a short break in Glasgow for her 70th birthday. Hotel, a show, a look round the local attractions and, importantly, a good meal. I used Tripadviser to pick out this restaurant and was certainly not disappointed. It is small, and intimate with great staff who made us feel very welcome.
We ate crab and prawn dumplings, steak bavette, braised ramsay’s of Carluke pork belly and finished off with lavender panna-cotta. Good wine drinks and coffee and a very reasonable bill and it is safe to say that we had enjoyed one of the best meals we have ever had! In fact, we were so impressed we had reserved a table for lunch the following day before we had left the restaurant that evening.
The next day's lunch was, once again, superb and now we plan another short break to Glasgow in the New Year, central to which will be meals at No 16!
The restaurant is small but adds credence to the old saying the "Good things come in small packages". Thanks Joel and his staff for making an old couple extremely happy.

“Number 16 Byres Rd - mislead by high ranking.”

Number 16 was disappointing. We hoped our anniversary dinner would be as exceptional as the majority of reviews on Tripadvisor - however, our meal was was very average.
The steak bavette, although typically fibrous and chewy in texture, was hard to cut let alone chew. It was replaced by the seabream which was lovely, but we were disappointed to be charged for the steak. The sticky toffee pudding was ok. Not one of our dishes were value for money. The service and atmosphere were good but we went there for fine food which on this occasion was riding on a false reputation.

“Lunch at Number 16”

Excellent, efficient service - one girl doing all the waiting without missing a beat. Lunchtime menu-great choice and value. Were offered replacement coffee when waitress felt original might not be right. Have been many times and this place never disappoints.

“Our Wedding Anniversary meal made even more special by the team at Number 16!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2013

Coming across the same old same old haunts in my search for a spot of good scran in Glasvegas, I decided to try TripAdvisor (a strange concept to look up places in your own hometown - but boy did it pay off!). Scrolling through our options, none other that the Number 16 on Byres Road was sitting there, minding it's own business at the top spot. It's a place we've often walked past and wondered what it would be like... Intimate - for sure: There perhaps 10 tables inside, tops. Cosy, relaxed, chilled to the max: abso-bloomin-lutely!

We arrived in from a stroll down Byres Road, stopping in at some of our favourite haunts, HillHeadBookclub, Bar Soba... and had worked up one heck of an appetite. Upon our arrival, the lovely lassie serving us brought us a glass of bubbles each as we'd indicated it was our anniversary on the booking note - LOVELY TOUCH! Points notching up and we hadn't even sat down.

The meal itself was heaven - a taste explosion in every mouthful!

Service superb - good chat from the youngish guy serving us - told us all about the history of the style of the place and the fusion food roots - both the chefs who are the owners have traveled extensively across SE Asia and hence the food is Scottish with a real hint of the Far East: chilis, lemongrass, etc...

It was a Sunday as well so worth pointing out that it's a BYOB policy on a Sunday, thus the Michelin Star quality food came with a pricetag from Pizza Express! DELIGHTFUL :-)

We were delighted with this find and will be back!

“Special occasion”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2013 via mobile

Went here for a birthday dinner so didn't mind the expense but a bit pricey for a normal dinner. The food lived up to the price though and the wine is cheap. Very small place so book well in advance. Would recommend the scallops and the lamb looked good too
