“Nice”
Reviewed April 22, 2013 via mobile

It's a lovely, busy wee restaurant with nice food. Not sure if we did something to offend the staff but we didn't get to hear the specials and he seemed to be making an effort to be polite. I enjoyed the pork belly but my sister didn't enjoy her scallops. Overall, it was nice but not enough to go back.

“Superb”

Thanks to Tripadvisor for drawing my attention to this wonderful little place. We had lunch here on Saturday and were very impressed. The restaurant is on Byres Road, not at the botanical gardens end but down at the scruffy end. The restaurant itself is, shall we say compact. Don't go there to discuss the terms of your divorce or some intricate health issues as the tables are close together and you will be overheard.
Having said that the food was excellent. I had trout to begin with which was so imaginative and tasty, my husband had the soup which was rich with roasted garlic and delicious. For mains I had the chicken, so very moist whilst he took the belly pork with black pudding and adored it. We then had a sweet. We try not to eat sweets but could not resist. He ate the lemon tart and I had a banana crumble with ginger ice cream. Wow, wow, wow. Go and eat this at Number 16 now.
It was also nice to be able to get a half litre of a good wine, which came in a delightful pottery jug.
The staff were friendly and efficient and yes, we will be back

“We will definitely go back”

Fantastic lunch and great value. Best food we've had for years. The restaurant is not all that easy to spot from the road and is very small but it is well worth finding and visiting.

“Sadly Disappointed”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

We heard good things about this restaurant so we gave it a go, firstly it is very small so not much room, its certainly not cheap either, we are looking at £5.50 starters which are tastey yes, but the portions are very small, I got Lamb as a main £15.00 odd, and they never had any form of mint sauce. Not for me as three starters, 3 mains, one sweet and cheeseboard,2 bottles house wine, £126. Overpriced considering what amounts are in the portions.

“Another wee gem!”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

This place is pretty tiny. 20 covers downstairs, more (didn't explore) upstairs. Decor rustic: brick walls painted white. With wife and her sister for sister-in-law's 75th birthday. Food was delicious. Chicken was said to be the best she had ever tasted! Starters trout fillet, tomato basil and garlic soup. Mains roast chicken breast, mine was pork belly and my wife had galette with goat's cheese. The chef was reported by our waitress to be excellent and our experience supports her claim. Puff pastry with creme patissiere and strawberries (aka millefeuille) lemon and coconut tart with passion fruit sorbet, sweet potato and almond cake with spiced marscapone and an orange syrup. During our meal the florist delivered the day's flowers, so our waitress replaced the (unwilted) table flowers. This distracted her from providing my tonic water and may have contributed to the delay in serving our side orders of potatoes and courgettes (which unusually I loved). Portion sizes perfect for lunchtime. So . . . once they get their florist to behave himself all will be perfect.
