Gandolfi Fish is among the best places to eat in the Merchant City but their wine club evenings are an absolute treat.
Their May outing was five savoury courses ( three surf and two turf ) each partnered with an outstanding wine.
The narrative between courses in this tour themed to the old spice routes was about the wine, but a similar description of the food would add to the event.

Set in Merchant City , plenty of bars around for pre meal drinks. Ate A La Carte, chatty staff, nice venue, great food. Starters were delicious - whitebait nice and crisp with a spicy dip and the scallops/black pudding for my partner. We followed with whole sea bass and Fish Pie although shouldn't have had any sides as the portions were more than enough and very tasty. Good quality wine although expensive.

The latest wine tasting evening, "The Spice Route" was a wonderful epicurean adventure comprising five courses with accompanying wines, and a wine talk. Look out for this monthly event.

Had a lovely meal - the food is really very good. What spoilt it was that the staff were so inattentive that we wondered if 1. We were invisibile 2. Had we interrupted a private social event that they were having?
A toddler belonging to a couple eating there was wandering about for quite some time - he kept coming to our table - the staff really should have dealt with it. I don't pay that money to be forced to engage with a child who is unknown to me. Then someone known to the staff came in with another child and that absorbed all their attention. Others sat at the bar absorbed in their Iphones. There were more staff than customers (early evening) but the service was terrible.
I had got used to the excellent staff in Gandolfi 1, so this came as a surprise - I think Seamus needs to keep an eye on this, as others I know had similar experiences.

That was back in January. I would like to return (for the good food) and am hoping that the owner might read this and improve the staff training before I do!
