“Excellent stay & quality Guest House.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2011

An excellent and beautifully kept guest house, with a "home" feel and a host, whom can not do enough for you.
Great breakfasts, a light area dining area, and pleasent and polite staff, whom are knowledgable about Glasgow and the surrounding area.
Highly recommended and cant wait to back.

From the emails arranging coming here through to arriving and leaving nothing was too much trouble for John and his team.

On arrival we could tell everything was super clean and immaculate.

Room - We were in room 1 which was a big double room, flatscreen freeview tv, huge fitted wardrobe with sliding double doors, wet room style bathroom. Bed was huge and very comfortable. Couldn't get WiFi in the room but was okay in the lounge or conservatory so not really an issue for us. Decor was a little dated for my tastes and bathroom could poss have a higher pressure shower to improve things but we always had hot water morning, noon or night and as mentioned before everything was so clean and nothing was broken or tatty. Even the carpet was pristine. Even though on ground floor and at the front of the house we couldn't hear any noise from the road.

Parking - Lots of FREE parking around the rear of the guest house which scores highly for me as most of the other hotels or guesthouses in Glasgow say you either need to use a NCP or pay for street parking.

Breakfast - Choice of cereal, toast, jams, fully cooked Scottish (bacon, egg, sausage, beans, tomato, mushrooms, potato scone, haggis/black pudding), eggs anyway you want them, fruit platters, refills of fresh coffee and fruit juice brought to you before your cup/glass is even empty. Always cooked nicely and quickly and served with a smile. Dining area is in the conservatory which overlooks the little back garden patio area. Very well kept and looked after too.

Kitchen - We had use of the kitchen whilst we were there and we utilised this one night to make ourselves an Indian. We ate in the conservatory as requested and found it actually very romantic with all the fairy lights. The kitchen had everything we needed and was spotless.

Location - Dumbreck Road is brilliant for everywhere in and around Glasgow. You have your choice of motorway exits literally coming off this road and you're less than 10 minute walk to the train station. £1.75 return gets you to the next stop which is Glasgow Central and in 5 minutes. Obviously this is quicker and cheaper than driving and parking in the city. There are loads of bus stops on the road too so you have your pick of transport.

Value - At £59 per room for the night and no extra for staying over a weekend with 2 bank holidays (thanks to the royal wedding) we were very impressed. Free to park and no hidden extras for using the kitchen to make your own meals or make tea and coffee. I have stayed in many more expensive hotels and B&B's but none of them come close to the service we got here.

To be honest, the guest house is super as it is and the only improvements that could be made would be cosmetic. However this does not detract from the fantastic staff and the brilliant condition they keep this guesthouse in. John mentioned to us before we left that they are in the process of doing up the place decor wise, so as and when money permits, the improvements will be made.

Thank you John & Co - we will be back.

The host was very welcoming and he made a nice breakfast every day. He can give you plenty of advice about places to visit. Room was very clean, comfortable and cozy.
Walking distance from parks (ideal for running) and the Burrell Collection. Bus stop to go to the centre just 10 metres from the door, train station 10 minutes walk (one stop from Central Station), taxi is only 7 pounds to and from the city centre if you want to enjoy the nightlife.
It's a very good place if you want to visit Glasgow and the outskirts or if you are looking for a relaxing place and feel a bit at home.

Stayed here for a couple of nights and felt very comfortable. The owner was welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. John and his staff are fun to be around, which enhanced our stay there. The place is spotless and the breakfasts well prepared especially the fruit platter. The Glasgow Guest House is well positioned for visiiting the Art Lovers House and the Burrell Collection, and a reasonably short drive to the centre of town.
Highly recommended.

having read the reviews prior to booking, we were wondering..is it really that good?.. and now we can say...YES it is. From the welcome to the departure we had a very enjoyable two nights. there was no rush at any time, the room was at the front of the building but was very quiet; the breakfasts were very well cooked and presented, the bed very comfortable...all in all a very quiet and relaxing weekend. We wish we had found this guesthouse a while ago, it is so much better than the hotels we have stayed in on previous visits to Glasgow, there should be ***** next to the 5 circle ratings, thoroughly recommended

Wife & adult family had a weekend stay to attend a wedding. Convenient location for motorway access city + nearby Burrell Museum. Ample parking at rear of premises. Warm welcome from proprietor John. Well appointed, comfortable rooms, & pleasant period style lounge + free access to kitchen facilities & roomy dining area in conservatory. Excellent breakfast choices, freshly made, & ranging from fruit platter to traditional cooked breakfast at time to suit customer. Well heated, with customer control of temp. Guest house itself of period red sandstone design, with internal decor in keeping with house. Proprietor John readily available for advice on venues, travel, availability & quality of take-away meals which can be delivered to premises. To sum up, a very pleasurable stay at a well kept guest house where personal service is a major feature.

A group of us booked this guest house for our daughter's wedding and stayed both Friday and Saturday nights. It is a lovely light and comfortable house with easy free parking. The owner went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed. We had the use of the dining room on Friday evening and the use of the kitchen at all times. The rooms are spotless, the beds comfortable and the breakfast is both good and substantial. The accommodation is very reasonably priced. It might be wise to avoid the single cabin room which is tiny and lacks privacy as it overlooks the dining room.
