Scrambling for somewhere to go for dinner for our anniversary (30 minutes before we wanted to go for dinner) I had a vague recollection of thinking once we must try Guy's. Booked, arrived and was quite impressed by the welcome and atmosphere. Still thinking though should we have gone somewhere we knew for this actual 'occasion'...
Well I'm so glad we didn't.
The service was so very personal and unassuming, the atmosphere relaxed and the menu quite impressive with a wide range of starters and mains. Nice touch saying be patient as each dish is made for you but any doubt we had that maybe meant wait a long time to be fed was unfounded.
Its not a big place but its well staffed so service is quick and the meals are served before you even start think about it will be.
OK so its priced according to the quality of food but really worth it; we had a perfectly cooked steak and a fresh tasty lemon sole. The star was the chocolate fudge cake though, I almost ordered another one to take home.
We will definitely visit again, the pre Theatre menu looked well placed and priced so you can enjoy a less expensive meal too.

Went to this restaurant for the lunchtime special for four of us on a Saturday afternoon. Nice location in a very vibrant part of Glasgow and it had been recommend by my wife from a previous visit.
Three of the company had 'nicely' cooked dishes that were safe bets - fish, pasta and steak, I unfortunately went for the Black Pudding main course. This did did not work in any way, and was possibly the worst main dish I have ever had anywhere. The sauce smothered concoction took totally everything away from the expected flavours of Stornoway's finest product. As for serving a cold salad on the plate with this hot sauced dish bordered on the ridiculous. The Chef must have been having a fusion experiment - Scottish Islands meet the Greek Islands. As for the Latke on which the sauce smothered Black Pudding resided - it had the texture leather and the taste of cardboard.
The others in the group all enjoyed their meals, the steak in particular was cooked to medium rare as requested and had a delicious barbeque taste. Also the Romanian Pinot Noir wine by the glass was a great discovery and would recommend.
The place has a good atmosphere, good location and someone in the kitchen who is experimenting unsuccessfully with some of the main courses!

Hotel said try down Candleriggs, so we did, looked at them all, and chose this one. Why? mainly as it looked friendly, and it was. Duck egg and black pudding, then the rack of lamb, cooked perfectly and melt in the mouth. Eating partner had smoked duck breast and the venison. Both shared thecMalbec. A cheeky exchange with the waitress on the differences between Creme Brûlée and Trinity Cream. Very friendly very busy waitresses, perfect balance of professionalism and banter. I'm London based, so prices were familiar, thought these were a tad too high

got seated quickly without reservation, excellent service, meal was delicious, and excellent value, extensive menu choice, 3 of us dined with 2 rounds of drinks, came to about £50.00, for a restaurant in the centre of Glasgow I think is fantastic value, ( only 1 minor complaint, my dessert was a tad on the child portion size, c'mon bump them up a bit Guy's ) :-) decor was lovely and inviting, ornate without being intimidating, toilets beautifully clean, well situated in Candleriggs, in the Merchant Square area of Glasgow, would certainly return and recommend, overall great wee place to eat.
