Description: The Doll's House is one of St Andrew's most recognisable spots to eat & drink- 2015 sees the restaurant celebrate its 20th anniversary. Specialising in hearty "good mood food", The Doll's House offers a diverse range of quality offers- from weekend brunch to value market menu dining. As well as an abundance of fresh scones and pastries, the main menu is packed full of lighter bites like big bowl salads and shellfish specials, along with a hearty mix of casseroles and roasts. We like to think there are some nice little touches too, like the "Eden Brewery Beer Battered Fish", and a new signature piece- a scrummy and slightly indulgent afternoon tea for two. Those joining us at The Dolls House for Sunday Roast every week can feel good about the splurge- we will donate 50p from the sale of each roast to Families First- a local charity based in the area. On the drinks list, you'll find a wonderful selection of gins to suit every palate, complimented by a range of carefully selected fresh garnishes and premium tonics. If you are looking for a spot of something sweeter, the Liquid Dessert range is exactly what it sounds like- a small but perfectly formed collection of cocktails that taste like their pudding namesake. Upstairs in the Eden Mill Private Dining Room, we can cater for cosy dinner parties and celebrations for groups of up to 12.

My daughter Lucy and I went to this excellent restaurant to celebrate her birthday. The early evening menu is an absolute bargain. A good choice of great food and the service was first class. We both had a really great evening out - thank you Doll's House.

My husband and I went for lunch with my cousin who lives near Liverpool. She comes to visit once a year and the Dolls House is a must for her. We all had something different and all our courses were delicious. The staff are friendly and helpful and the ambience just great. The set lunch menu is great value. My cousin is looking forward to returning next year.

The meal consisted of Tomato soup served in a small portion, a steak smothered in a sauce with an aniseed taste which spoiled it completely, the waitress was advised of this, she said she would tell the chef, he sent back the message that as far as he was concerned the customer was wrong and the sauce was good.
I would have preferred any sauce to be presented in a separate dish allowing the customer to taste and try before spoiling the dish.
The cost including three glasses of house wine was excessive.
Would I go there again ? Unlikely, only if I was the guest and did not wish to offend the host by refusing.

Very sorry to learn we fell short with this customer. We always aim to deliver food and service that exceeds expectation so I am sorry that this was not the case on this occasion.

The sauce served with the steak was in fact a thyme and anise gravy which was well-received during the two week spell it featured on our menus - we are sorry that this was not the case for this reviewer. For future reference we can easily serve most sauce separately and some customers do prefer this if they are unsure if they will like the taste. We have addressed the clumsy communication that makes our chef sound very uncooperative and could have been better phrased - the sauce was supposed to taste the way it did - but irrespective of this we should have been more demonstrably accommodating. We are happy to substitute sauces where practical - ultimately we want our customers to leave happy and satisfied - just let us know your preference.

We have highlighted this issue with our staff to make sure they are fully aware of how accommodating we can be and hope that readers are assured that we are always prepared to amend dishes where practical to suit our customers' needs.
