“What a course!”
Review of Torrance Course

Torrance Course

Fantastic course, beautiful greens and narrow fairways. Hit the fairways or you are lost! Better second time.

Having played the lesser known Kittocks course the previous day we were extremely disappointed in this course. Very surprised that Sam Torrance is prepared to put his name to this very ordinary and highly over priced course.
Staff were friendly, facilities are good and course was in reasonable condition but the layout and design of the course (particularly the front nine around the hotel) was very forgettable - can't remember a single hole. Finish at 17 and 18 is quite good but other than that a very mundane course.

Surprisingly poorly designed considering I assume it has Sam Torrance's name (?) associated with it. The condition of the course was also at the other end of the scale to Kings Barns and The Castle course which were in great shape. But the Torrance had patchy fairways, slow bumpy greens and unkept bunkers. Unacceptable for August. Overall it was uninspiring, not a great test of golf and unloved by green staff.

it was the second time that we had played here and we were not dissapointed by the standards of the course. As they dont have members their you can play off any tee.

the pro shop satff are friendly and have a good knowledge of all the courses in the area.

the only minus for me was the hospitality area, the food was of very poor quality - had bacon sandwiches [well had fat sandwiches with pork tasting bacon????] and the staff were more interested in chatting amongst themselves than serving.

we will play there again but not eat

Played the Kittocks yesterday, after playing the Castle the day before. Started off with bacon roll, bacon same texture as beef jerky, obviously been in oven all night. No fresh orange. (Castle breakfast delicious). Off to locker room, floor coverered in dry grass, toilets filthy paper towels strewn everywhere. The third locker I tried worked. Locker room needs lots of attention. Checked in for round, asked if played cousre before, when I said no, I expected a good introduction as I got at Castle yesterday, but no, guy just pointed and said that's the first tee, just follow the course up the coast. Yesterday at Castle, we were told the pin positions, distance marker layouts etc. Both cousres about the same price, at the Kittock's however, range balls were £5, stroke saver £5. Both included at Castle. Driving range was hitting off hard dusty bare earth and divots. The play areas desperately needed shifting over some real grass.
Course however was really good. Great conitions, best greens I've played all year. Halfway house service was great. Etiquette of our friends from across the pond not great, folk need to look around them before they start shouting and hollering, but that's nothing to do with the course.
Overall a good day, which would have been a great day if he clubhouse experience equalled the golfing experience. These guys need to wander half a mile down the road to see how it should be done.

Thank Plukins
