I can thoroughly recommend this delightful B & B in a most convenient location in St Andrews. It is only a short walk to the shops and restaurants, and close to the golf courses. The rooms are well furnished and very clean with good en-suites. The breakfast is excellent with everything freshly cooked to order and top quality. The staff were all very helpful. I would definitely stay there again.

I was phoning from overseas to try and book some last minute accomodation in St Andrews - want to actually stay in St Andrews. After talking to the owner, he indicated he only had one room available when we needed two. After a bunch of phoning around, found another place that only had one room and phoned back to book the room at Nethan. He made every excuse in the book to try and not accomodate me for only one night. The attitude was offensive given he did have the room and I was willing to pay the full rate.

Would not recommend you stay here due to the attitude. If the owner is difficult while booking, I would hate to think of how he is if there is a problem.

I've finally been cured of staying in Hotels. Nethan House is everything I could have asked for. Right in town yet very near the sea, sands cliff walks and Golf Club(s). if that's your thing - not mine! Modern bright decor, comfortable recently upgraded room with power shower, friendly, helpful owners and staff, Breakfast is home cooked fresh food. Gone are childhood memories of the daunting seaside B&B and I'll not be tempted by hotels again!

Four older couples from Ohio visited St.Andrews in September. We were there a week. The men played golf. The women visited castles and gardens. The owners and staff at the Guest House were great. The food was great. The rooms were nice. The only draw back was that there was difficulty finding a parking place. I would like to stay there again sometime.

Note: I apologise for the quality of the photographs. Having just finished a 5-hour drive, I forgot to take them before settling into the room and the pictures of the beds are after we slept in them. They were, as you'd expect, impeccably made when we arrived. I include these only for completeness and to give some sense of what the rooms are like.

We initially wanted to book a room in another B&B, The Paddock, but it was fully booked. Instead, we were offered a room in Nethan Guest House which is owned by the same people but is in the centre of St Andrews. Since we were attending a University open day, this was ideal. The location can simply not be beat. It is in the centre of the town, near a number of excellent restaurants. I particularly recommend Ziggy's, literally a minute down the street, for its generous portions and interesting rock memorabilia.

The room was excellent. The beds were well made and exceptionally comfortable, and the presence of a LCD TV was a pleasant surprise. However it was limited to the basic five channels and reception was not always perfect, but to be honest you probably won't end up watching it that much. The 'bathroom' is small and only has a shower, and higher water pressure might not have gone amiss. It was however impeccably clean and the view from the window of a garden was great. There were some nice touches like a selection of teas including fruit teas, shortbread biscuits, and a bowl of mint imperials.

The staff were very friendly, and the gentlemen who greeted us was very willing to answer questions. The breakfast staff were equally obliging, and when paying for our room there was genuine interest in what we were in Saint Andrews for. Breakfast was good with a wide range of cold and cooked options, the former in a buffet style. You can find the menu on their website and it is an accurate picture of what is offered. Overall, I thought the property was excellent and can easily recommend it.

  • Liked — Exceptionally comfortable beds
  • Disliked — Small bathroom, the haggis was a little lacking

We were a group of 8 men on a once in a lifetime golf trip to St Andrews to play the Old Course. None of us had ever stayed at a B&B before and were honestly a little sceptical. I would stay at the Nethan House again in a heartbeat. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, the staff is fantastic - very delightful people who went out of their way to ensure our comfort. Breakfast was included each day and was not only terrific, everything you could think of was on the menu! The location is ideal, close to restaurants and bars, and of course to the Golf Courses. I would highly recommend the Nethan House if you are planning a trip to St Andrews!
