“How can others say this is bad”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2009

This is one of the best hotels anyone will ever stay in, ignore the " terrible " or " bad " reviews - service, facilities, food are all first class.

And a great location too.

In the many trips to St Andrews University over the past 4 years this was our first stay at the Fairmont. We thought we might mind not staying in the village, but the accessible Fairmont shuttle made it a non-issue. It was especially nice not to have to find a parking spot in town during the busy graduation week. Best parts of this hotel: gorgeous views of St Andrews and the bay, the solitary feel of rolling green, bunkers and water, the spacious room, and the food. The only downside was our room location - one floor above the entrance. In the wee hours a few parties continued their celebrations under our window.

Greeted with valet parking and a very cheerful character who took the car for us. Bag carried in and a very warm welcome at the check in desk. We were upgraded to a sea view room and were not disappointed. The room was very spacious and comfortable. Great lighting and everything you need. Large bath with separate double shower cubicle.
Spa is top class and all staff very welcoming and friendly.
Unfortunately there was a power cut (not within the hotels control) for 2 hours, which meant we could not get ready or iron clothes. The hotel staff offered to iron our outfits for us and offered the office for my hair straightening needs. Nothing was too much trouble.
As we were only here for one night we felt our time was precious and would be better to enjoy our stay fully another time.
We decided at around 10pm to check out and it was no problem at the front desk. They apologies profusely and we explained that it was not a problem these things happen. We given a full refund and the staff promptly got our car and we headed home as we were not too far from St Andrews.
For such a large hotel there is a certain homelyness and a good bit of scottish banter from the valet parking staff. Very pleased and will definately return! Will make sure we go at 3pm to enjoy this hotel fully. And may jut have to make it 2 nights rather than 1.

I'll keep it brief, arrived, greeted by frieendly concierge & reception staff and thought this looks great and was not disappointed. throughout the whole 4 day break. The staff were extremely friendly, couldn't do enough for you. Hubby enjoyed his golf at the hotel whilst I relaxed in the spa. Greeted by your name by different meberrs of staff, attention to detail in everything. Food and wine were amazing in all restaurents, especially the Club House - beautiful view from there, bit pricey but worth every single penny!
If your debating whether to stay here - don't wait any longer - just book ,you will not be disapppointed!

We stayed 3 nights at the end of May 2009 for a relaxing weekend. The spa was fantastic along with the leisure facilities. The golf course looked fantastic, even though we are not golfers!!

The staff were very helpful and attentive, to the extent that we were 1 hour late for breakfast and they still set us a table and served us!!

The weather was gorgeous, which topped our stay off, but even at a dull, rainy time of year it wouldn't of spoilt our weekend.

Hotel highly recommened, would definatly stay again.

My family have stayed at this hotel for years, but since it became Fairmont, it has certainly gone downhill. Not 5* any more. We booked to stay there in April for 4 nights (although left after 2). The room was small, with a small double, which was astonishing for a hotel like this, so very uncomfortable. The food in the Squire was awful at night and we weren't the only ones who complained that night. We had been told the buffet was on but it wasn't. My daughter's meal was cold and hard and as it was a child buffet, it had been sitting around for ages, so was awful. I had a "steak", which was expensive but turned out to be shoulder steak, so was tough and cold. The waitress told us what the type of steak was and the reason it had to be cooked pink, was because it was shoulder. Awful. We left and ate out in St. Andrew's. The breakfast was good though. The pool too busy and changing rooms too small. Not a five star hotel any more and we will not be returning. What a waste of a hotel.

This is a great hotel in every way.

Concierges - So helpful

Reception - Ditto

Spa - Ditto, my wife had a great time, but pricey.

Rooms - Very nice, clean, roomy, lovely bathroom (tiled floor - heated!) Big LCD TV, our room was a 'low end' one on 3rd floor facing front of hotel, but still fab.

Golf - Phenomenal links course, amazing views. £58 per round inc 3 taylor made balls.

Food - Very good, highly recommend. Esparante is v expensive. Breakfast was excellent, large selection buffet,

Tip !! - Join Fairmonts loyalty club called The Presidents Club, it's gets you plenty benefits for free - join online !!

There are loads of v reasonable 'deals' right now, don't miss out. Oh, and St Andrews is a beautiful town too.

All in all - Perfect Getaway !!!
