I played the Castle Course on 15 October & it was a fantastic golfing experience .I had heard critical reports of the severity of the greens and the difficulty of the layout. It is a difficult course to score well on and you need your A game but the course and the views are magnificent.A must play when visiting St Andrews and a great alternative to the Old Course.

The Castle course has become a marmite course. You either love it or hate it. I loved it. It's true the greens are the most undulating greens you'll ever play on any course in the world. At times you thought there was a Windmill missing on the greens! You have to make sure you hit the greens close to the pins. A caddy is a must if you want to get full enjoyment out of the course. The 17th hole must be one of the best par 3 holes in golf. A 175 yard carry over a ravine with a backdrop of St. Andrews city. Worth playing just for this hole alone. Don't be put off by the negative comments regarding the greens - play it, you won't regret it.

Not for the faint hearted but an fantastic course. From the welcome at the front desk out the front to all of the staff inside, that are so friendly. You need to hire a caddie ( Peter from Skegness was mine) as this is a must to enhance your experience. It costs £60 which includes the tip. They are friendly and very helpful and never laugh at your bad shots. This is the best experience of my golfing career to date.

Good luck on the 17th hole??????

Took advantage of the offer for sgu members in August
Amazing design
Stunning views
Need imagination on the greens and surrounds but that's what links golf is all about?
Tougher than kings barns and castle Stewart which tend to flatter the higher handicapper.
Best new course I have played in ten years
