Myself, my husband and son absolutely love the whins! lovely friendly hosts and absolutely immaculate house. right in the heart of st andrews and near both the beach and the old course! we have been here a couple of times now and fully intend to come back!
Beautiful property, perfect location, our hosts were amazingly kind and attentive. We had a wonderful time, we'll definitively visit again!
All I really need say is that we have stayed at this property four or five times now and have already booked it again for next August. We are a family of four; with a son aged 10 and daughter 7, for which the house is perfect. Sheila and Ian are very welcoming. The house is immaculately kept, it has all the facilities needed with a lovely garden. The location is really excellent and is close to all that is good about St Andrews. St Andrews is famous for Golf but has so much more than that. History, architecture, great beaches, shops and restaurants. We love it.
This was my tenth trip to St. Andrews and I found the Whins Cottage the best rental for location, quality, price and landlord support. Sheila and Ian are friendly and helpful.
The unit is new, well furnished and spacious. It's a two minute walk to the first tee of the Old Course AND the center of town. It's convenient location can't be beat.
I'll definitely be back.
You can totally relax in this beautifully quirky property tucked away in a lovely garden and yet only minutes from the beach, the golf courses and all that the town of St Andrews can offer. The accommodation has everything you could need and the owners are lovely people, welcoming and friendly, who will advise on parking in the area - I found this was was easy once you know which streets offer free spaces. I recommend climbing St Rule's Tower at the cathedral for astonishing views over the town, (watch your head in the doorway at the top - I didn't!) Also a walk along the Lade Braes which is a long standing public footpath that winds around part of the town and through wooded areas. In fine weather, book (in advance online) for the rigid inflatable boat which takes you from Anstruther to the Isle of May. The boat trip is great fun, zipping across, and even a non birdwatcher like me enjoyed seeing/hearing/occasionally smelling the huge variety of birds - the puffins alone are a delight.
There are several things we loved about this place. Firstly, location... a one minute walk to the Old Course and only a five minute walk to Market Street, at the heart of St Andrews. Sheila and Ian were very helpful and friendly on arrival, the introductory tour was concise and well thought-out. The cottage design is modern, yet blends in with the character of its surroundings. Bedrooms adequate size with pristine en suites. Well stocked kitchen area and spacious lounge on upper level. Utility room extremely useful, with tumble dryer.
We also felt that the cottage is offered at a refreshingly fair price...a week's holiday in St Andrews has sadly become something of an unaffordable luxury for many in recent years, due to over-inflated rental tariffs.
No surprise, then, that The Whins' diary is pretty much full for the year.
Highly recommended. Will definitely return ( if it's available!).
This was our fourth stay at Whinns Cottage. The location couldn't be better and the house is the perfect size for our family. Ian and Sheila are always really welcoming and couldn't be more helpful. The house is literally a stones throw from the 18th hole of the old course and a five minute walk from shops and restaurants. It has everything you need and is absolutely immaculate. We love it and thoroughly enjoy our time there.
