Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa

Eight golfers from Florida spent a week at the hotel and it was a perfect experience. The rooms overlooking the Road Hole on the Old Course are large and well appointed. The beds are super but the real treat is the shower. As would be expected on a Kohler property the Shower was simply fantastic. After a tough round on the Old Course nothing was better than a luxurious shower with jets pelting your with hot water from all directions!
The spa, pool, steam, plunge, sauna and steam room were all very nice.

Room Tip: Don't miss out get a room overlooking the course and the West Sands.

The welcome as you drive in from an elegant doorman in highland dress, the reception team, the staff everywhere are attentive and polished yet relaxed. The Spa is superb and the rooms and facilities are world class!
The view is the icing on the cake with the 17th 18th and 1st holes in front of you with the iconic R&A club house as the backdrop.
A very special place in a special place for golf.
Well done to the management and staff - I had a really enjoyable visit and will return next year.

Room Tip: Any with a view over the golf course !! Make sure you see the sun rise - awesome sight.

Everything about this hotel was great. We were dropping off our son at St. Andrews Univ and found the location to be perfect. We coiuld walk to everything. The rooms were beautiful and perfectly clean. The food in all the restaurants was outstanding, but the waffles for breakfast have been declared the "best" ever!! The spa/ workout area was on the smaller side, but very very nice. We will no doubt stay here as we travel back and forth over the next four years!

We visited the Old Course Hotel in the afternoon after playing The Old Course earlier that day. Great selection of single malts. Don't forget the observation deck off the Road Hole Grill for watching other golfers attack the Road Hole. But watch your head as golf balls so come over the plexiglass screen. Very relaxing and staff was very pleasant.

This was our 5th stay at the Old Course Hotel which for a Golfer has the best location in the World.
We were late getting into our room (4.30pm ish) due to a problem with the Voicemail system on the phone which we were told was resolved. However, during the night we had 6 instances of the phone bleeping numerous times until we lifted the handset which in conjunction with a droning noise from the heating or water system ? ensured that we had very little sleep. We reported this the following morning (Sat 29th Sept) and were subsequently upgraded to a Suite overlooking the 17th fairway. The Suite was superb & the upgrade very much appreciated.

We ate in 'Sands' on the 1st night (Friday 28th Sept). We were late getting seated as the table was reserved for 2 people & not 4 as requested. The starters were excellent as were the Rib Eye steaks. However my wife & one of our friends ordered the Salmon Steak and both encountered numerous very large bones. If swallowed these bones could have been dangerous and we feel that the Salmon should not have been served this way.
Breakfast was great.
Spa was out of this world albeit the 10% service charge for an 80 min massage at over £100 is OTT. Hydrotherapy pool is bliss.
Food in Jigger Inn was excellent.
The Dukes Golf Course was most enjoyable & in excellent condition. The Shuttle bus up & back from the course was most convenient.

Although we encountered a few problems we believe these to be a one-off and will definitely return to one of the worlds best hotels.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at the Old Course Hotel.

I am delighted that on balance you found us to be one of the world’s best hotels. Nonetheless I am grateful to you for raising these issues and I would like you to rest assured that steps have been taken to rectify these.

With regards to the Telephone system and noise from the heating, This has already been resolved by our engineering and maintenance team.

In terms of your dining experience at Sands I can only apologise for the presence of large bones in your wife’s Salmon, I have spoken with our head chef to ensure that incidents such as this do not occur.

It’s unfortunate that you experienced these issues however as you note these are one off, and when you next return we look forward to once again extending our warmest welcome to you.

Kind regards,

Daniel Pereira.

Just spent 2 nights at the hotel over Friday and Saturday night. Greeted warmly with glass fizzy wine on arrival. Check in smooth and quick.
Room allocated to us was lovely, huge bed and plenty of nice touches..magazines, flat screen tv.
Bathroom was beautiful with excellent fittings and biggest bath ever!
All food we had was very good, the burgers in jigger inn are enormous and the seafood platter in sands restaurant was huge and so worth the cost!
Champagne cocktails well made and potent but pricey, although reflective of 5 star prices!
Breakfast has buffet style and also ordering specialist items from al la carte, I had eggs benedicte one morning and they were perfect!
I enjoyed the spa (while my partner golfed) although it's expensive!! £113 for a massage is pricey, however it was 80 mins and it was superb!! I don't like that hotel automatically charges 10% service charge, I'm happy to leave something but not £11!! We also enjoyed the roof top hot tub, even though it was a freezing cold day.. The tub was very toasty!
We really enjoyed our first stay at the old course and we will def return!
My only gripe is that on entering the spa I wasn't properly given an orientation or the fob needed to access the thermal area..I had to work that out for myself and return to reception, however it doesn't deter from a super mini break.. Ps views are gorgeous

Wow, amazing in every respect.  The location is stunning and the welcome warm and friendly. The accommodation just blew us away.  Our suite was incredibly well designed with very high quality furnishings, extremely well equipped and spotlessly clean.  The staff's knowledge of their product and their guests was of an unbelievably high standard and contributed to our far too short but unforgettable weekend of pure luxury.  Everyone was incredibly friendly and could not do enough to make our stay "perfect" which it certainly was.  We ate in the Road Hole Restaurant and the food was outstanding in quality, range of choice, originality, preparation and presentation.  Waiting staff were most very attentive, knowledgeable and friendly – nothing too much trouble. The Spa – what an experience!  A most beautiful and serene and welcoming place to relax, unwind and generally chill out.  Again, extremely friendly and helpful staff and probably the widest choice of facilities I have seen included in the room rate. The whole experience was just “heavenly”, can’t wait to return at some time in the future.
