We've been to the Old Course Hotel 2 or 3 times and we always love it. The location is fabulous, especially in the evenings when the sun sets and you can sit and have a drink in the bar on the top floor. The staff are very knowledgeable and provide loads of info on what to do in the area. The Road Hole restaurant is great, but choose your table carefully to make the most of the views.
All in all a fab place for a couple of nights away from home. It must be one of the best hotels in Scotland.

We spent 2 nights at the hotel at New Year and from the minute we arrived to the minute we left it was first class. We dined in both the hotel restaurants during stay and the food was really good. We also went to the Jigger Inn Hogmanay party and had a great night. We definitely be back.

Best afternoon tea I have ever had!! I went with a group of colleagues to celebrate a birthday. The selection of sandwiches, scones and fancies was outstanding, as was the choice of teas/coffees. One or two of our party (the passengers!) even indulged in a glass of bubbly. The service was excellent, the views over the golf course and beyond provided a perfect backdrop to our "Ladies' Day Out". As we left, the remains of our party food were boxed up and offered to us without us even having to ask. A delightful afternoon out.

The Old Course is outstanding on all counts. What really sets it apart is its exemplary customer service. Every member of staff we encountered was friendly, polite and professional. They made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone. We will definitely return!

Booked to stay a night for a function in St Andrews, the centre of which is a short stroll along the 17th and 18th holes of the famous "Old Course" golf course - after which the hotel is named.

Service: Service throughout the stay was excellent as expected from a 5 star hotel. Interiors of the public areas were clean and well kept. I was shown to my room and all the features were explained by one of the guest managers.

Room: The room was a good size, bathroom well appointed with a nice deep, wide bath, rainwater shower head over the bath and a separate shower extension. The room was very hot even with the heating switched off, and there was no air conditioning, which didn't make for a very comfortable nights sleeping. There was a large gap along the bottom of the door, which let a lot of light and some noise in - one of my pet hates with hotel rooms. The TV had free on-demand movies which was a bonus.

Food: I had both dinner in the Sands Grill and breakfast in the Old Course restaurant. Dinner was slightly disappointing (for a vegetarian like me), and not quite upto the standard I was expecting of a 5 star hotel. Nevertheless, it was edible and served with a lovely Merlot. Breakfast benefits from a fantastic view across the golf course. You can have cereals, porridge, pastries or a traditional Scottish cooked breakfast. Other than a rogue piece of ham in my (vegetarian) scrambled eggs, breakfast was great. The ham issue was resolved with a minimum of fuss by the restaurant manager with an sincere apology and a fresh order.

All in all, it's a very pleasant hotel in a great part of St Andrews. The service and staff are, as you would expect, excellent. I will definitely stay here again the next time I come to St Andrews.

Staff were fantastic - from the concierge meeting us at the car to help with our luggage to the reception staff who phoned us as soon as our room was ready to the bar & restaurant staff who were all very helpful and attentive. Our room was massive, very clean & well equipped. Lighting wasn't great for putting on make-up and there was no full length mirror but that was the only negative. Breakfast also outstanding. Buffet was v fresh & piping hot. Would highly recommend this hotel.

The Old Course Hotel in St Andrews is in a wonderful location and the view from our room was spectacular overlooking the golf course and the sea. We stayed in the modern part of the hotel in a very well furnished and laid out suite which was unfortunately above the function room. We were unable to get any sleep until the function finished just after midnight.
Staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful especially the doormen and the girls at reception.
We ate at the feature restaurant the Road Hole ( see separate review) one night and the Sands Grill the next night. The Sands Grill is very ordinary and the staff fairly disinterested in any sort of service. We ordered steak which was good but seemed like 'pub grub' rather than restaurant food. An okay place to eat but St Andrews is filled with excellent restaurants. Stay at the Old Course which is very comfortable but eat elsewhere.
