Owner description: A golfing Mecca for the most accomplished golfer to the enthusiastic amateur, a trip to St Andrews Links is one which realises the ultimate dream for golfers worldwide. From the iconic Swilcan Bridge on the Old Course to Tom Morris’s masterful architecture on the New Course, St Andrews Links has developed over 600 years to become one of the most famous locations in golf. Perhaps most fascinating however, is the fact that all seven courses at St Andrews Links are public and open to everyone. St Andrews Links is the largest public golfing complex in Europe. From the terrifying sight of Hell Bunker on the Old Course to the gentle slopes of the Balgove, the Home of Golf has become the ultimate golfing destination for all ages and abilities. The three championship courses; the Old Course, New Course and Jubilee Course run parallel to each other along the famous St Andrews Links West Sands of St Andrews. Nestled on the opposite side of the Links are the Eden, Strathtyrum and the only nine hole course, the Balgove. A five minute drive from town is the seventh course, the award winning Castle Course which offers dramatic views over St Andrews from its spectacular cliff top location. Away from the course, explore the fantastic facilities St Andrews Links has to offer. Learn the game where it was first played at the St Andrews Links Golf Academy. The Academy offers first-class tuition from PGA-Qualified St Andrews Links professionals and is home the only Callaway Performance Centre (custom-fit) in Scotland. The driving range has over 60 bays, including 22 indoors, and a landing zone which is over 400 yards long. All mats are air cushioned, and five bays include the Power Tee automated system. There is short game area, which includes a replica of Road Bunker, and a putting green, once the second on the Eden Course and regarded as one of the finest in St Andrews. Shop our fantastic range of official merchandise from our five retail stores, the Old Course Shop, the 18th Green Shop, the Links Clubhouse Shop, the Castle Course shop and the oldest golf shop in the world – Tom Morris. Finally relax in the Swilcan Restaurant in the Links Clubhouse, The Eden Clubhouse or the Castle Course Clubhouse with a wee dram as you reflect on your visit to the Home of Golf.

“Golf in St Andrews.”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

The Old Course is probably the most iconic course in world golf and certainly the most historic. The New Course is an excellent links built by Old Tom Morris for the R & A in the 1890s – a favourite with locals for town competitions. The Eden is a Colt-designed ladies championship course improved by Dr MacKenzie. The Jubilee is a demanding links which has hosted the Scottish Amateur stroke-play championship. The Strathmore is a favourite course for older locals - not long but its greens are demanding. Don’t play the Castle Course - it is an expensive frippery built for the tourists - the locals hate it. The other courses (Dukes, Kingsbarns etc) are expensive and not worth the effort. Go to the traditional town and village courses around the East Neuk (Elie, Crail, Lundin Links, Leven, etc) which are infinitely better and a fraction the cost.

I loved the fresh air and the thought that there were many famous people that had played golf here, being a public thoroughfare you can walk on the course and walk over the famous bridge. ducking the golf balls...

Fresh air is definitely something we're not short of being right on the coast. You're right, our courses are public so are open to all. The Old Course is also closed for play on Sundays so visitors are free to walk along the famous fairways. Thank you.

“Golf Trip of a Lifetime!”
Reviewed November 7, 2013

Got the opportunity to book the winter package before you have to play with mats, so we gathered up a group of 4 to go! The Old Course just has this amazing vibe to it....we got to play where legends, kings, and some of the best golfers in the world have played! Only issue I had was on the old course the ranger was on our butts to speed up the round. It was 4 guys playing their own ball who are 15-19 handicap...we played in 4hr 10 min....he started on us at hole 3 and bothered us a few times until the 9th...still it didnt spoil our time!

Our Caddies were fantastic, Jim, Jim, Dave, and mine Tom Martin. Highly reccomened...

We also played the New and Castle and I think they got it right with the castle course. It was soooo scenic and challenging!

Highly Reccomend.

Thank you for a fantastic review! We're sorry that you felt pressured by our Course Ranger. Pace of play is important for us to help ensure that as many golfers get to experience our courses as possible. We'll certainly take your feedback on board though. Also glad you tried the New and The Castle! They are both true tests of Links golf. Regards.

Hit (poorly) a bucket of balls on the driving course but you could sense the dedication to golfing all around the town.

A visit to the St Andrews Links Golf Academy is the perfect preparation for a round on one of our courses. We also run "Prepare to Play the Links" lessons which would be ideal if you plan on returning for a game. Thank you for your review.
