The Old Course is probably the most iconic course in world golf and certainly the most historic. The New Course is an excellent links built by Old Tom Morris for the R & A in the 1890s – a favourite with locals for town competitions. The Eden is a Colt-designed ladies championship course improved by Dr MacKenzie. The Jubilee is a demanding links which has hosted the Scottish Amateur stroke-play championship. The Strathmore is a favourite course for older locals - not long but its greens are demanding. Don’t play the Castle Course - it is an expensive frippery built for the tourists - the locals hate it. The other courses (Dukes, Kingsbarns etc) are expensive and not worth the effort. Go to the traditional town and village courses around the East Neuk (Elie, Crail, Lundin Links, Leven, etc) which are infinitely better and a fraction the cost.
