Excellent room overlooking sea and old course on second floor. Big, very comfy bed and easy chairs. Bathroom a bit of a let down with really awkward shower. However biggest problem was breakfast which was a shambles. Shame the service was so bad because the full Scottish and the 3egg omelette were extremely tasty. Happy to go back to a homely place in a great location.

It was our first trip to St. Andrews and the stay at the Scores was simply fantastic! Our room was on the 3rd floor overlooking the water and a partial view of the first hole of the Old Course. The purpose of the trip was to play golf so being able to walk to both the New and Old Courses was unbelievable. The food at the Scores was delicious and the pub was most enjoyable. Fantastic pubs, restaurants and shops are all within easy walking. When I return to St. Andrews, I will stay at the Scores!

Excellent stay - had a great room with views of the beach and golf course, spacious room, comfortable bed, the staff were all very friendly and helpful, breakfast was buffet style, evening meal in restaurant with fantastic views to the sea, staff efficient and welcoming, each course of meal was well presented and tasted very good, will definitely visit this hotel again

Overall, I was disappointed with my stay, though I enjoyed being in the great location the hotel offers.
Positives: wonderful location, friendly staff, nice views from room (albeit at the back of the hotel).
Negatives: room not terribly clean, loose tap & fittings in bathroom, lukewarm water in shower, repetitive menus.

I submitted a comprehensive review to the hotel manager and was impressed at his detailed response which addressed each of my concerns. I do sincerely believe he is trying to improve the hotel's failings, which is good to know.

However, on the basis of my experience, I would not immediately recommend the hotel to colleagues.

Fantastic location with views over the West Sands and the Old Course. We had a standard room (last-minute booking) - reduced price thank goodness, certainly not worth the full price. Beds very comfortable, but room was tiny with second-hand type old -fashioned furniture (chipped). Room to the back and quiet, apart from a noisy fan somewhere on the lower floor that only stopped around 2am. Thus, we kept windows closed. Bathroom basic for a hotel of this type. Wilted violet plant in the room (we watered it). When passing to the lift on ground floor, trolley with dirty dishes often visible just outside the bar - not appetizing. The owner should substitute the very down-market signs outside the hotel, e.g., "Chariots" for the bar, for a more upmarket version - looks very cheap. Bar very old fashioned. Reception staff OK, but not overtly welcoming. Final receipt not automatic and presented as in any good hotel. Has fantastic possibilities, but needs a serious overhaul.

My husband and I arrived after a long day's driving and working en route. Check-in was quick and efficient but that's as far as our satisfaction stretched! The 'Junior Suite' hadn't been hoovered and nail clippings, fruit pips and general dirt were found. General surfaces in the bedroom had obviously not been dusted for weeks but worst of all was the bathroom with pubic hairs and other bodily hairs to be found on the floor and in the bath. The taps and tiles hadn't been cleaned and the grouting over the bath was mouldy. There were no tissues, only one set of towels and no ventilation whatsoever! The dirty theme continued with cobwebs on the stair banisters and layers of dust that you could write in. The restaurant wasn't much better and staff were indifferent in their attitude. The food and coffee was disgusting and virtually cold. When we approached the reception to complain, a female member of staff obviously found it funny so we asked to speak to the Duty Manager in private. He refunded us £30 but we still feel we wasted £120. St. Andrews was beautiful but staying at The Scores spoilt it.

We visited this hotel as part of a recent tour of Scotland. When we arrived we negotiated a very reasonable upgrade to a junior suite with a sea view. The room was enormous and very stylish with a magnificent sea and golf course view. The service was good but we felt the food did not quite live up to our expectations. Having said that I would certainly return to the hotel if in the area again. Joancurry
