“Can't fault it!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 7, 2013

This is the second time we have stayed at the Rufflets in the past 4 months. Both very enjoyable experiences. The hotel is set in lovely grounds and not far from the centre of St Andrews. Our daughter is currently studying at St Andrews University and the hotel is very close to the David Russell Apartments. The staff are very attentive and I cannot fault it. We have eaten both in the restaurant which was lovely although we did feel the portions a little small but excellent quality. We have also enjoyed the early supper in the bar which is extremely good value.

Room Tip: The first time we visited we were given Room 35 which was lovely and spacious with a large bathroom...

On outskirts of St Andrew's but short drive to town. Warm welcome on arrival - hotel remembered our last stay some 6 years ago. Highly recommended. Peaceful and elegant hotel environment. Comfortable and well-appointed bedroom. Excellent staff. Restaurant food good but not outstanding.

Room Tip: Rooms to rear of hotel overlook garden.

Dear David

Really pleased to hear that you had enjoyed the mini break at Rufflets.

It does seem that we have ticked all the right boxes for you (as we do for many of our guests) and i can only hope that it is not another 6 years before we can welcome you back again.

Note the comment on the food - will continue to work hard to make it out-standing!

Regards

Stephen

My wife and I spent 2 great days/nights at Rufflets and really enjoyed the experience. We had a classic double room - but will definitely book a suite next time. Had trouble getting hot water for bath or wash hand basin - reported problem, but only solution was to run shower for a few minutes first, which was a bit of a bind ! Excellent dinner and breakfast on both days. Disappointed to find that after dinner coffee was an additional £4 each ! Otherwise, highly recommended.

Room Tip: Worth paying extra for a suite or superior room.

Dear GerryC

We are all really pleased to read how much you and your wife enjoyed the experience of staying at Rufflets, and thank you for your comments.

We have been able to look at the plumbing problem - issue had been caused by one of our contractors who had been working on the refurb of a bathroom next to yours and had switched off one of the supply pipes! Problem now fixed but really sorry that this happened.

On the issue of the coffee - this is somehting that we dont include in the menu price - but we do look to ensure that the coffee (with the home-made petits fours) is excellent quality, and worth the little bit extra.

With my best regards,

Stephen

We recently spent a weekend at this hotel and i couldn't commend it high eneough . We were
fortunate enough to be allocated a turret room which overlooked the well maintained and manicured gardens . The room itself was very spacious with a separate lounge and TV area.
The housekeeping was as you would expect from a five star establishment , and the staff very
helpful and accomodating . We had a lovely meal in the retaurant ,with both the standard of food and the service excellent . Although only five minutes drive from the center of St Andrews ,
the hotel is set in a quiet location with beatiful views of the countryside .
My compliments to owners and staff for a wonderful weekend .

,

Room Tip: Ask for a second floor turret room . Room is extremely spacious with beautiful views ,

Dear Neil B

Many thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback on Tripadvisor, and we were all delighted to read how much you had enjoyed the visit to our hotel.

The Turret Rooms are fabulous, with wonderful views over the formal gardens, and are very popular indeed. They might cost a wee bit extra, but worth it!

The rooms, the food, the ambience of the public areas - added to the dedication of our team do go towards creating a very special place to stay when visiting St Andrews.

Hope to see you back at the hotel soon.

With my best regards,

Stephen

We've lost track of how many times we've stayed at Rufflets but we keep coming back 'cos we're hooked! Stayed a couple of days in early February but it felt like longer. We received a very warm welcome from Angela Bradley who does a superb job running the restaurant and keeping things moving in a quiet, efficient way. All the staff are so welcoming and friendly that it's a bit like going to stay with friends! Kirsty, who brought fresh milk to our room .every morning was always cheerful and chatty despite being very busy in the breakfast room. The food, as always, was superb - without doubt among the best in Scotland. There is always a varied choice and made from beautifully fresh, often local, ingredients. The room was large, comfortable and very well looked after by the housekeeping staff - thank you to all the staff for such an enjoyable stay (again) - We'll be back!

Dear Davmax

So we have got you hooked - as we have with many of our other regular guests which suggests that we are doing somethings right....and keeping them right!

We are continually looking to keep the hotel fresh and up to date with the refurb programme that the owners invest in - too many hotels dont do this and start to fade.

For me the real pleasure in reading your comments comes from the mentions of the staff. You name two (and they say thank you), but what we do is very much a team effort, and I am always grateful to have such a good team around me at the hotel.

Look forward to seeing you again in the near future.

With my best regards,

Stephen

We visited the hotel to attend our son's wedding this weekend. From arriving to leaving everything was perfect. The room we were allocated could not have been better. We would like to comment on the excellent housekeeping and the attention to detail. The nightly "turn down" service is a real bonus. It is encouraging to find a hotel that vacuums the rooms daily. My wife and I hope to return very soon for another weekend break.

A lovely established hotel set in beautiful grounds in a great location. The hotel offers comfortable rooms, good food and wine with a warm welcome from friendly staff. The bar has an extensive range of single malt whiskies. Free wi-fi throughout the hotel and your own personal teddy bear complete the facilities provided to guarantee a pleasant stay.

Dear John

Most grateful that you have taken the time to write the review after your last visit to Rufflets.

Comfort, a warm welcome and friendly staff is what we are all about, and I was especially pleased to read that you had enjoyed one or two of our selection of over 100 whiskies (although I hope that you didn't try them all on one night!).

Look forward to seeing you again soon.
