“poor management”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 25, 2012

Having stayed at this hotel many times, and indeed as a child, the position and views are still stunning.
However the room value of £248 was not relative to the very tired bedroom, the tv balancing on top of a chest of drawers, half blocking portraits, simple housekeeping observation/health safety.
The three breakfast's were utter torture, even ignoring the last rock hard croissant.
The management should have noticed the incorrect spelling of 'Please wait '.The staff requred basic catering training ,this is down to the Management.
We still remember the quality days but on this occasion certainly not!.

If views of the Old Course are driving your decision to stay at this hotel, you might prefer to sleep elsewhere and just go to the hotel for a drink or a meal. The views of the 18th are superb. It almost feels as if the hotel is part of the course. What an amazing location.

But the rooms are another story. In our room, the furniture was seriously dented and scratched. The walls were dirty. The bathroom door had so many black hand-marks it looked like a work site. The worst part was the bathtub, which acted as the shower stall. The water would not drain. An employee came and cleaned out a plug of hair and soap as large as two golf balls. We could only wonder how long guests had been putting up with the poor drainage.

As for the bed, yes there was one. But it was very uncomfortable, and the pillows were worse.

I filled out the comment card on our departure raising these issues. I have since received a letter from management explaining that many guests are golfers and their golf bags can cause damage. As for the bathroom condition, they will remind their staff about proper cleaning and maintenance.

The end result is that the hotel is well below par....that may be great on the Old Course but not for a hotel.

Room Tip: Insist on facing the Old Course. Rooms overlooking the rear main street can be noisy when you open t...

I would NOT recommend this hotel. While it has an exceptional location next to the St. Andrews Golf Course (most of the hotel overlooks the 1st/18th holes), the rooms are rather disappointing. Our first room was so small that we had to stack our modest luggage to get around the bed (we were told that we had the second worst room in the hotel!) - and the view was of the street sign for the hotel with all the road noise that goes along with a room at street level. The second room - apparently an upgrade! - was slightly larger but had a bed that was so incredibly hard and uncomfortable that I suffered back pain for literally 6 days afterwards. For the money, this hotel is simply not worth it when there are good, comfortable rooms for a fraction of the cost throughout St. Andrews, or very comfortable rooms at the resort hotel for slightly more.

Room Tip: A room with a view is the only reason to stay here.

Wake up in the morning and step outside to the greatest golf experience in the world. You cannot beat this location. The pub in the basement was fun after a round of golf. Breakfast left something to be desired. Rooms were small but very clean and well kept. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful.

we recently spent 2 days at Rusacks Hotel St Andrews and it was wonderful. The views of the Old Course, Clubhouse and the West Sands from our window were fabulous! All members of staff that we came across were very friendly and welcoming - providing lots of information about the town. We enjoyed drinks in the R Bar - the R Bar cocktail can be recommended!! The food was lovely and we hope to return soon - we can thorougly recommend it!

If you're planning a golf vacation in Scotland, you will no doubt include a round at the Old Course in St Andrews. Rusacks is certainly a great hotel for your stay. It is right off the 18th hole, so it allows you easy access to the course both for playing and for watching others play. It is very convenient to the golf shops to buy your souvenirs. The Scottish breakfast is very good as is dinner in the main restaurant. There are a couple bars in the hotel to choose from, and the rooms are decent size for a European hotel.

If you want a great location, are fit and healthy, price isnt a concern, have a dog and don't need any food, this might be for you. Otherwise I recommend you go elsewhere. The chicken sandwich from the RBar was the most greasy and bland I have ever hard. In fact I didn't know a chicken sandwich could be so tasteless. However the problems really started when I tried to wheelchair. I didn't even have it feet on and the only way I could get in was to have my legs rammed up against the wall with no space for a helper. In case you misunderstand and think I am obese - I am a size 10 so quite small and dainty. I have. Ever been so humiliated. The room was excellent with a wonderful view over the Old Course but then we did pay £310 for 1 night B&B! the final 'disappointment' was breakfast. Despite the extortionate price we paid, they had the audacity to charge a surplus for breakfast staples of kippers and smoked haddock. The service was shockingly bad and we had to chase. It once but twice to receive our cooked food.
