“Best kept "Secret" in St Andrews”

Stayed here again for the sixth time, always welcoming and great food with good accomodation. The new beer garden out back is a great asset, parking is outside in the street or if busy there is a well priced public carpark two minutes away. There is a great pub atmosphere at night, especially at weekends when it can get busy. It's rooms are very clean & at the price it must be one of the best bargains in the town.

It is difficult to find a suitable place to eat with children in st Andrews if you just require some light refreshments but the west port bar offers this .
It is a trendy bar / restaurant , family friendly with a greats kid's menu .
It has a lovely beer garden area at the rear which is partly under cover with comfortable seating area whereby you can enjoy your meals .
The staff are very attentive whether you require , food , a coffee or even the service of the bar only
The food arrived quickly and was very good .
However, expect to pay st andrews prices !

My partner and I stayed at the West Port towards the end of May - we got a great deal on b&b and really enjoyed our visit. This isn't for you if you're looking for luxury accommodation but if you're looking for a nice place to stay in a good location, I'd definitely recommend it.

We were lucky enough to visit St Andrew's when the weather was really, really hot. We arrived at about 2pm and parked a two minute walk away from the West Port.

We went into the bar and a member of staff showed us up to our room on the top floor. It was bright, airy and absolutely spotless - the room also had a TV with dvd player. Bed was comfy, bathroom quite spacious, nice big wardrobe (only there for one night so not much to unpack!) and a view overlooking South Street.

After getting settled we decided to head out into the beer garden and had lunch in the sunshine. We both had chicken burgers and even my unbelievable fussy boyfriend enjoyed it. The beer garden is really nice - having seen the venue from the front I was quite taken aback by how big the beer garden was and can imagine this will be busy all summer round.

Afterwards we went pottering around St Andrew's before retiring for the night quite late on. The following morning we had a brilliant fry up in the breakfast area of the bar.

All in all we had a great stay and I'll definitely be back to the West Port - especially if the sun is out.

We stayed here for two nights in June 2012, in Room 1. This room is on the first floor but we weren't bothered by any noise from the restaurant downstairs. There is a big bathroom, a small hallway area for storage and a fairly large bedroom that overlooks South Street and the remains of the West Port.
The bed looked huge but turned out to be two beds pushed together but didn't affect the sleep quality. The room was kept very clean and the staff were courteous and efficient. The breakfast was fine but was outshone by the meals they do in the restaurant which I thought were very good. There's a huge beer garden at the back of the building in case the sun ever comes out.
Overall it's a good little place to stay in a central location and it's handy to have a bar and restaurant down the stairs without it causing a racket. I thought it was maybe a little pricey but I suppose St.Andrews itself is expensive in high season.
I would definately stay again.

I have just returned home following a 4 night stay at the West Port as part of my 50th birthday treat playing golf with 3 mates.
We booked all 4 rooms and room 2 or 3 are highly recommended as they are a good size and very comfortable, but to be fair all the rooms are good, they were all spotless and cleaned everyday of our stay
All 4 of us enjoyed our stay, the staff were brillant and nothing was too much trouble, breakfast was good and we thought the evening meals were really tasty.
We were all quite happy spending the evening in the bar enjoying the busy atmosphere as well as a couple of beers, so never ventured further afield.

The room rate was also very competative.
Should we return next year, the West Port will be our first choice for a place to stay.

Room Tip: I stay in room 3, which is bigger then 4......
