We stayed in this hotel for a long weekend. A nice surprise awaited us as we had been upgraded to a suite. The hotel has obviously been modernised with the extension of new bedrooms and a fitness suite, although we were located in the older part of the hotel. The room allocated was very specious and well equipped, with the only downside being it was not double glazed. This could be due to the difficulty in doing so with an older stone type building or it may even be listed. However no matter it was not a big issue for us.

The food as has been reported on other postings is plentiful, and the menu for dinner allows a good choice. We were quite a large party for dinner and the food arrived more or less together , which was a good achievement considering the number of different choices made by our party. Breakfasts do not live up to the quality of the dinners. There is nothing wrong with them, except they are a bit run of the mill.

The new fitness suite is excellent with a variety of classes also on offer. There is a pool which is not particulary large and come become busy, but it is perfectly adequate.

The gardens of the hotel, whist we did not walk in them, looked in good condition.

Thank you for your kind review following your recent stay. We are all delighted that you enjoyed your stay. As you suspected the building is listed because of its historical and architectural importance so putting double glazing in the main part of the building was never an option.
We did of course factor in the single glazing when specifying the new , energy efficient heating system so it is unusual if the rooms are not warm enough.
We take on board your comments regarding breakfast and we will certainly take them into consideration.

Just back from a 2 night bed and breakfast in this lovely hotel - everything was perfect. The staff were friendly, helpful and very polite and welcoming. We took our Springer Spaniel Holly and she loved her first ever holiday in a hotel. The breakfast was great everything cooked fresh and hot. The leisure facilities were fantastic, sauna, steam room and nice big pool. The bedroom was lovely and clean and fresh towels each day. I would highly recommend this hotel and hope to return another time for a short break soon.

This hotel is actually quite superb. We stayed here for 2 nights 18th Feb 2012, service and food throughout the whole hotel was excellent. Could not find fault whatsoever. The location is very good if you want to visit Fife as well! Our room was a deluxe room we received a free upgrade because we have a rewards card for Best Western. The health suite was superb with large pool, sauna and steam room only one thing missing no jacuzzi but otherwise superb. The chef at the restaurant is simply fantastic we had the most beautiful meals both nights and they are not overpriced either! My hubby had venison for £14! Bottle of red costing around £16 - Highly recommend this hotel!

I have never actually stayed at this hotel so cannot rate the rooms.

In terms of food however, it is pretty average, overpriced and the portions are far too big. Maybe try reducing the portions and reduce the price? Desserts are extremely overpriced too - a single tiny brandy basket and a dollop of ice cream for £5, what a bargain!

Last time I ate here, I had the Thai Red Curry - there is nothing Thai about it! If having rice with Thai curry it is usually Jasmine rice, this comes with bog standard rice, Basmati probably. It comes with poppadoms and naan bread, not very Thai like! Sauce is usually thin, this is thick Indian like Madras curry - maybe it should be called Balgeddie special curry?

Since adding on the extension, you get a massive waft of chlorine as you enter the main building making you think you've walked into the local swimmies...lovely.

Thank you for your comments regarding your recent meal with us. I am sorry that you are disappointed by your meal. It As you will see from other reviews, we do tend to offer wholesome home cooked food and yes the portions are generous, we seldom get complaints about that!, indeed our comment forms show a high satisfaction level with the food, its quality, its value for money and the friendly service.
Unfortunately it would seem that we were either having a really bad ‘Off- Day’ or our food just does not suit your tastes.
Once again I am sorry that you were disappointed but I thank you for bringing your comments to our notice.

Booked through late rooms for a two night stay, when we arrived we were upgraded to a room in the new building. The room was fab for the price we paid - huge comfy bed - large window overlooking the gardens - large flat screen TV. All very fresh and new!
The hotel also has a new spa with a great pool, steam room, sauna and gym.
We had dinner at the hotel one of the evenings and it was nice and not very expensive. Breakfasts were also good - fruit, yoghurt, choice of cooked.
The hotel is really well located for heading over towards St. Andrews, on this occasion though we opted for a walk up and over East Lomond hill at Falkland village- lovely!
Overall this trip was fab value!

Thank you for your kind comments regarding your stay and your food during your recent visit. We are all delighted that it was satisfactory. There are several excellent walks in the area and of course you can dip in and out of Fifes coastal path at many places, sometimes you can have miles of path to yourself. It really is an undiscovered gem.

As a previous reviewer who stayed in the old part of the hotel (and then subsequently stayed in the much better new part) I was encouraged to stay again for longer stays due to the additional facilities, e.g. Gym/pool, and the fact that the company I work for now had a "corporate rate for deluxe rooms".

Mistakenly I thought deluxe might mean "always in the new part" but clearly I was wrong. Old part again this time and left wondering "what is deluxe"? Apart from larger bed I can see nothing. No mini bar, no power shower, no extra large LCD and not even biscuits every day of the stay. And the corporate rate seems little better than 10% off published rates. Still thin walls with sounds of blowing your nose and general talking and levels of cleanliness that are not perfect. Oh and a shower head that when you twist to try to get closer to the power shower experience just comes off - it seems good few years old! If you want to claim deluxe and take a premium for it you have to show something is deluxe.

For me, a weekly visitor to Glenrothes, it is back to my previous hotel. I did try!

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your recent stay. We are all very sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us. It may be helpful if I offered the following information. You are quite right to conclude that all of the 10 new rooms at Balgeddie are graded as Deluxe. In the main building all of the rooms on the first floor have always been graded as deluxe as well.
The smaller rooms on the second floor are significantly smaller and as they more closely resemble the standard of rooms recognized as 3 star rooms by both the AA and Visit Scotland these were called ‘ standard rooms’ and priced accordingly. The original house was fortunate to have a number of larger rooms that exceed the ‘standard’ size of 3 star standard hotel rooms . These rooms were named as Deluxe and have been sold as such for many years. The New extension rooms are of a similar size to the Deluxe rooms and when these were completed we added them to our deluxe inventory. So you will understand that have deluxe rooms in both the Main Building and in the new part. Many guests prefer one part of the building to the other and we are happy to allocate in the main building or new part as to the guest preference. The quality of furnishings and equipment is the same in both sections, although understandably the style may vary. Should you wish to have one of the new rooms you need only request that.
I am sorry that you had problem with the shower I assume that you reported that during your stay to allow us to fix it for future guests.
