Easily accessed from the Falkirk Wheel with good car parks and facilities, these well defined relicts are enjoyed by dog walkers and others in a very natural way. There are information boards with helpful if limited historical backgrond.

“Antonine Wall”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

Well, actually, there is no such wall as the "Antoine Wall". There is, however an Antonine Wall, built on the instructions of the Roman Emperor Antonine. Spot the difference? It stretched across Scotland from the River Clyde to the River Forth, and is now largely non-existent, though traces of it can still be seen in and around Falkirk, but only as earthen ramparts or stone foundations. Interesting from a historical viewpoint, but the display in Callendar House is far more informative and interesting. And there is a kids' playground, nice loch side walks, a museum, an art gallery, a boating lake (loch), and a nice wedding venue and tea-room. Oh, and loads of free parking.

Amazing site of the edge of the Roman Empire.take yourself back in time to when this section of the wall and fort were as far as we allowed the Romans to settle permanently in Scotland.

“Transport yourself back in time!”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

This site requires a lot of imagination to envision what the Roman walls and fort looked like about 1,800 years ago. It is a beautiful site, and you can walk on the grassy expanse, climbing the subtle remains of the walls and buildings. A set of pits has been excavated which were once used as a "minefield" to catch the charging enemy. There are a few plaques which explain what you are looking at, although it would be more helpful if there were some kind of guides available.
Getting to this site is tricky, as the path is not well-marked, but the journey is well worth it.
