“stunning”

Callendar house is situated within Callendar Park.
The house, which I have not been in yet, is a stunning building.
The park has a swing park, boating lake, golf, crazy golf, woodland walks, ducks and swans.
We have taken the kids there many a time.
Easy to spend the whole day in!!
100% recommend this as a great family day out

“Only French Chateau in Scotland”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2013

Well worth a visit, you can easily spend the day there, might be worth giving them a call for a list of forthcoming activities ans there is more to Callendar house than the house itself, the house is situated in Callendar Park which has a large play park for kids, crazy and normal golf, water boats, walks, firework displays and loads more

“The tearoom has relocated”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

I have previously reviewed the house but this update concerns the tearoom.Since our last visit to Callendar House, the tearoom has relocated into the Morning Room on the first floor of the house itself. Previously it was in small accommodation in the stable block area and this new location is certainly much more suitable. It's a beautiful room with leather panelled walls, an impressive fireplace and big windows with a lovely view to the rear of the property.
Our initial impression of the staff was not favourable because when we tried to attract the waitresses' attention, one of them said that we would ''have to wait'' whilst they served another table. We were perfectly happy to wait our turn but the attitude was very curt and unwelcoming. I think the problem was that it was near to closing time and the staff were tired and ready to pack up for the day.
However, when our order was eventually taken, things improved and we had a bit of banter with the waitress which helped to improve communications.
There's a nice selection of home-made cakes and some lovely varieties of tea, including herbal and green teas.We had black and Earl Grey tea and we were pleased that it was real loose leaf tea. We had toasted teacakes which were hot and buttery but served with a very mean portion of jam - probably about a teaspoonful in a tiny dish.
So, there were good and bad points to our visit but I would certainly go again. The house is a great asset to Falkirk and the free admission arrangement is brilliant and quite unusual in these money-grabbing times! Well done Falkirk Council!

“Great if you like history”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2013 via mobile

Visited Callendar House on Sunday, having not been for several years!
I had heard the tea room had moved into the main house and thought it might be nice to have a bite to eat there!
I was however a little dismayed as to why the house did not open until 2pm on a Sunday when the bouncy castle,go karts, crazy golf and kiosk were quite clearly open! My idea of lunch was not beefburger, cheeseburger nor chips offered at the kiosk!
That said....we decided nonetheless to pay a visit to the house itself later in the afternoon....it's just stunning!working kitchen, lots of history and the research centre is also based there!
It's free entry, although in my mind it's well worth popping some cash into the donations box to see the bear dance ( not a real one obviously:-D)
