Description: Tucked away on Thistle Street, Iris has been a welcome addition to the Edinburgh restaurant scene. This chic little bistro - with its designer wallpaper, banquette seating and rough stone walls – has an intimate, cosmopolitan vibe, and is popular with a discreet and sophisticated creative crowd. The modern European menu is guaranteed to impress, we love the roast duck breast with fresh raspberries and Drambuie; chicken supreme stuffed with langoustines served with a garlic and herb buerre blanc; and the roasted quail with spicy potatoes served with an orange and rocket salad. Ideal for stylish working lunches, and informal evening meals, Iris also has an extensive wine list with up to 17 bottles for under £20.

Today was our first time at the restaurant and we can highly recommend it. We decided to eat from the fixed lunch menu and really enjoyed it. The portion sizes were perfect, space between the courses was also perfect.

The staff were frendly and very attentive and the ambience was great a great choice for lunch.

Our selections were
Starters - Warm chicken and avocado salad and black pudding and goats cheese
Mains - roast leg of lamb, pork belly and sole and smoked salmon
Desserts - plumb crumble with custard, stem ginger cheese cake with fresh strawberries and banana fritters with caramel sauce and pecans.

Well worth a visit.

went to iris by recommendation. Was a Monday so was quite. Staff friendly and attentive, but not over bearing. Food was lovely. Belly pork and spring rolls to start and lamb with haggis and port fillet with balck pudding was wonderful. We couldn't eat puddings, as portions were generous. Could recommend to others.

Although the food here is great, portions are small. The staff were very friendly but we were shown to a table for 2 away from the main part although we had booked and felt a bit isolated as no one else was sitting in our part of the restaurant. Hence a lack of atmosphere!

The mussels are amazing! Best we have EVER eaten & we know a good mussel! Seabass & chicken were lovely. House red was great too. Waitress very friendly. Will go back when we return.

My husband and I visited Iris last week, for a meal before going to the theatre. We've been meaning to come here for ages (we used to live on Thistle St) and I'm so glad we finally did.
The restaurant was pretty quiet when we arrived, but it was only 6pm, so we were able to choose a great window seat to do a bit of people-watching in between courses.
We were originally only going to have mains, but the starters looked really good, so we decided to be greedy! I had duck spring rolls with a nice fresh salad and a tasty dipping sauce, and my husband had 3 delicious risotto balls with feta - both starters were delicious.
The mains were equally enjoyable. My husband had a crispy skinned salmon with cous cous and roasted veg, and I had black pudding stuffed pork with a lovely cider jus and some delicious stewed rhubarb.
We did go a bit overboard with sides, and ended up with too much food - I think 1 side to share between two would have been more than enough.
The service was great - attentive without being overpowering - and the timing was excellent; we had time for a nice post-dinner stroll to the theatre without having to rush.
Superb value for money and we'll definitely be back.
