Having been a regular customer while I lived in Edinburgh, it's high on my list of places to visit when I make it back to the city. I've always found the staff to be friendly and enthusiastic, particularly in the spectacle they put on when their signature dish "The Kismot Killer" is brought out, which adds to the feeling that it's a family owned restaurant.
What really makes this place special for me is the varied approach they take to the menu, which has all the standard fare you'd expect from a curry house, and then an interesting collection of house specialities such as the marshmallow naan and Irn Bruna.

The food was amazing, ideal portion and fair pricing. The restaurant is clean and the service is excellent. Really has the friendly atmosphere and you can feel that the Ali family does everything for you. We will definitely be regulars here.

We had a super meal here on a Friday night in early November. Though just a few minutes’ walk from the Royal Mile, you feel you’ve got away from the tourists here, which for us at least was a nice breather.

A very friendly welcome awaited, and we were shown to our table. True, there’s no magical, mysterious atmosphere going on here. The lights are fully up, the TV screen has Kismot’s media exploits - James Corden and co on a panel show challenging each other to eat their hottest death curry; appearances on BBC News; visits to the farm in Nagaland where they source their chillies (all quite interesting) and a spare table loaded up with dozens of sets of cutlery don’t really lend themselves to a romantic aura.

However, if you’re here for a good time and some great food, you won’t be disappointed. Kicking off with veggie pakoras, fresh salads, popadoms and an array of pickles and sauces, and following up with some delicious curries - lamb ada (nice refreshing ginger kick in this) and a honey chicken (son has a sweet tooth!) accompanied with sumptuous naans - peshwari is particularly tasty - we had come for a good feed and by heck, we got it!

Visited Kismot on a cold evening in October. Booked a table and the waiter was expecting us. The place is comfortable and cosy. The waiter was extremely welcoming and told us to make ourselves at home which I think was very sweet. It is a family run business with the son out front and parents cooking and you can feel that homely feel. The waiter was so attentive to your every need without being pushy.
I ordered the chicken Lahore and my partner got Madras which was quite spicy but there is well laid out explanations of the heat of each food and he likes it hot.
There is a special Kismot Killer as seen on tv which is around £25 of an extremely hot vege curry which they video you eating and if you finish you get the meal for free! Be careful it’s not for the faint of heart.
The food was absolutely delicious and plentiful and the meal was not at all expensive. I thoroughly recommend eating here. You won’t regret it.
