What an amazing experience to see the Edinburgh tattoo at last. A friend had spoken of going for years so finally four of us got on a plane and went. We purchased the Stuart package for our tickets which included walking up the esplanade and having dinner at the castle prior to the performance. The dinner was so-so -- a buffet with well-done beef and some kind of ham -- but the vegetables were good. And really, we were not there for the food. The package included seats facing the castle and the whole performance was directed to this section of the stadium. The tattoo was splendid, with pipers and military bands from all over. This year the emphasis was on Asia as it was commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Korean armistice. The weather was unusually warm so we had no need for heavy blankets or clothing. Fireworks every night above the castle when the show was over added to the spectacle. Access is not for those who are disabled and the ticket information includes this warning. You need to be able to negotiate the esplanade and the cobblestones. Flat shoes are recommended for everyone and that would be a smart choice. I'd love to go back and see it next year.

Born and brought up in scotland my whole life and I'm disappointed it's taken me till my 27th before my first visit to the Edinburgh Tattoo. Massively into live music, bagpipes and all thighs Scottish so this was my perfect event. seats were brilliant despite being cheaper ones... Will defiantly return next year but this time with a hip flask! Cheers

Attended the Military Tattoo on a Friday night a couple of weeks ago and it was fabulous! How fortunate for us to plan our visit during this amazing event held each August in front of the Edinburgh Castle.
This trip was for my husband's birthday, and this event (along with the golf at St Andrews) was one of his favorites! He loves bagpipes, and what a wonderful way to celebrate.
Do not miss the Tattoo if you are in Edinburgh in August!

First time to go and was very impressed! We were lucky to have a beautiful evening and it was so good. Colours and sounds awesome, especially the lighting on the castle. Definitely recommend!
