“Fantastic experience”
Reviewed October 27, 2013 via mobile

I can't fault any aspect of our dinner here. We were looking for a spoily treat and from the moment we walked in to the moment we rolled out full and happy, everything was perfect. The food was well balanced, tasty and exquisitely presented, the wines lovely and the service friendly and unstuffy. Next time we're going to try and get the window table as the views are amazing.

I ate at this restaurant on the occasion of my 60th birthday. This was a Wednesday, but sadly the restaurant seemed very quiet.

The decor is grand, the service excellent. Menu choices were tempting. The wine list was extensive and not overpriced.

Food was beautifully presented, perfectly cooked and the occasion was magical. The sommelier was knowledgable and keen to discuss wine choices.

Worth visiting for special occasions.

We feel honoured that you chose us for such a wonderful celebration, I am glad that we were able to play our part with your evening.

Knowing the work that goes in behind the scene with both the food and the front of house I can see it is all worth it when we receive reviews such as yours.

Once again we wish you a Happy Birthday and we all hope you enjoy the rest of the year

“Absolutely loved our dinner here, what a treat!”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

We love food and had read good reviews for The Pompadour, so booked for dinner in August. The recent superb refurbishment of The Caldedonian Hotel by The Waldorf Astoria and The Galvin Brothers taking over the restaurant have truly brought this old beauty of a restaurant back to life and it is now sparkling. Everything about our evening was a treat. Our pre dinner cocktail looking across to Edinburgh Castle was lovely. The dining room is so beautiful and elegant. We'd gone for the tasting menu with selected wines and from the first mouthful. we knew we were in for a serious treat. Peter, the sommelier, spoke with such passion about the wines that it was a education as well as them being delicious and the seven courses we ate were all faultless. The service was brilliant. All in all, it was a fabulous evening and a restaurant we will return too. It feels lucky to have it in the town where we live.

Dear Liberatedlou,

Thank you for your kind review, especially since you understand that reading a good review can make the difference. I am glad that you have seen the improvement in the hotel since the refurbishment and rest assured we aim to improve with every service. Personally I am lucky to find a job which I am passionate about and it does give me a sense of satisfaction that it comes through. We too are lucky to have guests who appreciate the finer things in life.

Best Wishes,

Peter
