Description: Opening Hours:-Lunch Monday - Friday 12pm-2pm, Saturday 12pm - 4pm. Dinner Monday - Saturday 5pm-10.30pm. West Edinburgh wasn't a dining hotspot, but charming, inviting, delicious First Coast is one of the establishments that have been changing that. A comfy toddle from Haymarket station, First Coast is quite an intimate, relaxed shop front restaurant done out the blues and greys of the sea, with rough hewn centre wall and super smart detailing. The frequently-changing modern Scottish menu lists meat and fowl as well as fish. Starters include very tender marinated squid, soy and sesame salad, mains include spicy grilled chicken breast with homemade sweet chilli sauce and coconut rice, and sweets include deep fried jam sandwich with vanilla ice cream- seriously. Short, thoughtful wine list, good vegetarian choices and warm service.

the service is excellent and the food delicious, we eat here regularly and have never had a poor experience, the menu changes frequently but old favourites can usually be found. Prices are great value and you can sign up for email alerts for special evenings. well worth a visit.

Despite the name, this is not specifically a seafood restaurant but serves all types of dishes, often with things that are a bit different and interesting. We live locally so have been several times and have been consistently very pleased with our meals. The food could perhaps be loosely described as modern Scottish, although there are often Middle Eastern influences on the menu too, which changes often so there's always something new to be spoilt for choice with. There's also a decent enough beer and wine selection and I have found the place to be good value for the quality of food provided, so will happily return again and recommend others do the same.

I can't agree with an earlier reviewer who described the waiting staff as having no chat or warmth - on our visits we've often asked the staff about the menu and have always found them to be friendly and knowledgable about how the food is prepared, giving us the recipe and telling us how we could recreate something at home

First Coast is a bir off the beaten track but well worth the visit.
I have gone as a couple, a family outing and taken 25+ for a business outing.
The level of service and food has always been first class. The atmosphear is laid back and the decor may be a bit sparten but more than made up for by the fantastic value for money food.
Menu can be a bit limited but have always found something to eat.
Well worth a visit if you like good Scottish food.

Menu was interesting selection with influences from around the world. Spicy squid main had a real kick as promised which was great, but babaganoush starter was covered in a balsamic reduction which was unnecessary and totally spoiled the dish. Service was slow from the kitchen and waiting staff simply dropped off and picked up food with no chat or warmth. Overall it was ok but nothing I would rush back to.

Good welcome by the friendly staff and the restaurant has basic but tidy decor. The toilets, which are downstairs, were cold and need a bit of attention.
We went as it was 25 January and were expecting as a Scottish restaurant that haggis heeps and tatties would be on the menu.
They weren't nor were they on the specials but then the waiter informed us that haggis was available as a special special!!
Main course was good and well presented but portions a wee bit on the small side.
Desserts were good too.
