“Usual reliability at great fixed price”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2013

3 course lunch deal for 4 delivering usual high quality Scottish ingredients...included haggis starter, salmon with Stornoway black pudding and delicious banoffie pie. All for approx £17 a head and with options for 1 or 2 course lunch deal at lower cost great value. BYO wine corkage charge at £5 reasonable. Very friendly and informal service and place just has a lovely relaxed feel to it.

“Don't book through 5pm, even though you have a confirmation they'll turn you away.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 8, 2013 via mobile

I booked online and was given the opportunity to book a table any time between 19:00 to 22:00. I booked for 19:30 only to arrive and be told restaurant was fully booked.

In fairness, most members of staff seemed empathetic, however there was one particular member of staff who as soon as 5pm was mentioned started to behave as if we had committed some horrible crime. Instead of just saying something like the other members of staff "really sorry" or "what a shame" she started to launch into a verbal tirade describing all the rules and issues with 5pm. If 5pm is such a problem for this restaurant they would be best just removing themselves from it.

We entered having done nothing wrong and left feeling what a shame she works there. Would be happy to go back as we've eaten there before and really enjoyed our meal, but don't feel like having to spend a couple hours there when she's on shift.

Pity.

“Delicious Scottish Dining in the heart of Edinburgh....what more can you ask for!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 7, 2013

I had never been to this restaurant and was ashamed considering I live in the city. Its a short 5-10 minute walk from Princes Street.

The restaurant is extremely quaint and a little rustic inside but it's clean and has some lovely decor. The staff are neither friendly nor rude, just doing their jobs...but the food is absolutely delicious (probably one of the best meals I have had). Because of the size of our table we were offered the Party Menu which cost £25.95 per person and had various options for each course. For starter I had the Sweetcorn and coriander fritter with a sunblushed tomato and ginger relish which was delicous. Followed by the Roast Portobello mushrooms with a cheddar and walnut stuffing, spring onion mash and a grain mustard cream, which was exceptional (there was a great mix of flavours and textures in this dish and it was very filling, especially with the mustard cream sauce). Fresh vegetables were also provided with the main course. For dessert I had the Dark rum panacotta with an espresso syrup. I was hesitant to get this compared to the other options but the mix of flavours was really good, not too much of any ingredient and they all complimented each other. I also tasted the Lemon Sorbet and the Banoffee pie and decided I had definitely picked the right dessert.

A great restaurant introducing you to the world of fine dining, Scottish style, definitely worth a visit.

“Amazing!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2013

This is one of the best restaurants i have been to in a long time. I went with my girlfriend and had the haggis starter which was delicious and my first time trying haggis. The atmosphere was nice and the service was excellent and attentive. Also the location is good as pretty central and its on a lovely street. Next time i am in edinburgh, i will come again!

“Great New Town dining”

Excellent, homey, and unpretentious. Walking a bit farther from the bustle of George Street is well worth it.
