Description: Martin Wishart, an Edinburgh-born chef, has firmly established himself as one of the UK’s most highly respected chefs. Trained under such renowned chefs as Albert Roux, Michel Roux Jr, Marco Pierre White and John Burton-Race, taking a little bit of inspiration from each mentor over the time he worked with them and distilling it to create his own culinary magic. Amongst some of the many attributes they imparted to him over the years of working together, it was the importance of discipline in the kitchen, a passion for food and a deep understanding of classic French cooking techniques that have continued to be the backbone of his style. Whilst never having planned to become a chef, he started working in kitchens from the age of fifteen, fell in love with the industry and now has more than thirty years’ experience in the business. He is now an established and multi-awarded chef and restaurateur.

Had lunch at Martin Wishart on the Shore,Edinburgh today and as usual was delighted by the fantastic food and service.Given the quality of the meal, the cost was not excessive.I cannot recommend it highly enough.i look forward to my next visit.

My wife and I have enjoyed dining at Martin Wishart's for many years and never been disappointed. The cuisine is well judged and perfectly prepared. The wine list is appropriate and the service unfailingly pleasant and helpful. Maintainance of the high standards achieved here over time is something that competing restaurants in our experience have never quite achieved.

We opted for the a la carte menu and were delighted with the French service and British cooking. The grouse was extraordinary. If there was anything negative to say, perhaps the puddings were not quite up to the same quality standard as the rest of the meal.

I cannot speak highly enough about our experience for dinner at Martin Wishart. The food and wine pairings were amazing, the staff was attentive and helpful and the overall experience puts this in our top 10 favorite restaurants of all time. We are a couple of foodies and if you are looking for a quick meal with big portions, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for an experience with amazing food and a multi-course extravaganza, then this is the place for you!

I must confess to being a MW regular and fan but am moved to comment again because, if it was possible, Martin has moved up another level.
We dined with family on a Thursday evening. The restaurant was again packed and word must have got round that the tasting menus have changed!
We all opted for the crustacean and fish tasting menu with one modification for two of us. Quite exceptional. The appetisers were a bonus and set the scene for another foodie sensation. Martin has been on a recent walkabout and the hint of asian fusion in the first two dishes were sensational. How can he make a small piece of turnip such a key ingredient of any dish! The lobster and sea bass dishes were spectacular. The suggestion of a Felton Road Chardonnay as an alternative to the tasting wines by the knowledgeable sommelier was an excellent choice.
This is consistently the restaurant that sets the standard in Edinburgh. Service is efficient, friendly, pleasant and informed. The meal is well paced and the tables accommodate the diners comfortably.
We left replete but are checking our diaries to make a return, this time perhaps for the meat tasting menu!
