Description: "toptable Dining Awards 2007 - Runner-up: Best Ambience category The award-winning Martin Wishart restaurant in Edinburgh 's port of Leith is a stunning fine dining experience not to be missed. The relaxed cream and mocha colour scheme, fresh flowers and flawless service provide the perfect backdrop for the exquisite food. Wishart – who has worked with super-chefs such as Marc Meneau, Albert Roux and Marco Pierre White during his high-profile career – has a dedicated team of eight chefs working overtime to create the restaurant's Michelin-starred modern Scottish menu. We love the lobster and smoked haddock souffle with soubise spinach; the partridge and foie gras with red cabbage and apple sauce; and the roast loin and civet of hare with apple, beetroot, salsafi and black pudding sauce. Enjoyed the lunch with matching wines menu in November 2012. The whole experience was simply fantastic. Incredible flavours, superb wines and immaculate service. We were made to feel very welcome and at ease whilst still enjoying service of the highest standard from all the staff. We loved every minute and will definitely return!

“The Best!”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

Went to Martin Wishart [upmarket venue] end October; beautiful but not over-decorated dining room; expert, helpful, and professional service (not stuffy and autocratic). The food was appropriately innovative, expertly prepared, and beautifully presented. Very tasty, and many local [and interesting] ingredients. Extremely pleasing wine matches and and after-dinner scotch choices. Hope to return!

“Outstanding in every respect”
Reviewed November 16, 2012

Restaurant Martin Wishart is certainly the best in Edinburgh. The most recent visit was highlighted by some outstanding dishes, foie gras, white truffle risotto with scallop, superb saddle of lamb and further rate desserts.
Yes it is expensive, but the quality of cuisine and service are second to none. Head waiter Jean Cristophe is most attentive. A magnificent gastronomic experience.

“Will definitely go back”

Superb, varied menu. Excellent presentation and quality of food. Attentive, friendly and helpful service. Lovely touch when they heard it was my birthday, a plate with happy birthday written in chocolate plus a few delicious chocolates. A great experience in a wonderful ambiance for a special meal.

“Nice view”
Reviewed November 13, 2012

One of the most wonderful of cullinary aromas is that of the scent of truffle!
We decided to stray from the set lunch menu ( great value at £25 ) to sample the winter truffle risotto, thereby trebling the food bill at one stroke! and was very disappointed when the dish arrived, the cloche was lifted and........nothing, not a trace or a sniff of truffle!
A bit peeved, we carried on with lunch but weren't particularly impressed, the John dory was o.k. but not great and the coffee parfait and mango was a bit like a war going on.
Perhaps this was just a bad day, but at £140 just for the food part I wouldn't chance it again.
I'll stick with Andrew Fairlie who delivers, every time!
