“Amazing food”

Food was really good and although slightly expensive, would highly recommend. Book in advance as restaurant is small.

“Decent”
Reviewed April 27, 2013 via mobile

The meat was the best cooked meat I've probably eaten. But the sauce itself was a little too monochromatic for my taste. Also felt a little pressured by the wait staff ("Would you like to drink water" meant that we'd have to buy a bottle of water; service charge of 10% was already printed on the bill even though it was optional). Still a lovely place, but did expect more.

“Great little gem”
Reviewed April 27, 2013

We ate in Dubh Prais on Wednesday 24th April following the reviews on trip advisor and it lived up to expectations. The food was lovely, I had asparagus soup and the lamb my boyfriend had mushrooms and the beef special all of which were gorgeous.

The waiters were lovely and so passionate about the food, overall it was a great experience and glad we took advice from trip advisor to book here, walking around Edinburgh there are so many chain restaurants it was great to eat Scottish cuisine!! I would recommend this to anyone who is visiting Edinburgh!

“Blind booking based on these reviews - well justified!”
Reviewed April 24, 2013

Our group of four were doing a weekend break on the mainland for a change and wanted to be certain of a good meal to start things off. The chef owner, James, was very happy to show off his kitchen and was most proud of his 25 year experience at producing meals to order. Two attentive waiters ensured we wanted for nothing. The smoked platter starter of three meats had an unusual herb flavour and the house special beef was cooked perfectly, it's rich dark sauce was superb. Not wanting to overdo the meal, we opted to skip dessert and enjoy the coffee, which came with a shortbread and a cube of fudge, great finish. A great blind booking, with charming staff and excellent food. This was the best of the two restaurants we were able to try. With wine and service, £160.

“Charming Traditional Scottish Restaurant”
Reviewed April 24, 2013

Went here because of the great reviews and it did not disappoint. This a tiny and charming basement restaurant right in the heart of Edinburgh. You must have a reservation! We saw many people come in and get turned away. There are only about 8 or 9 tables. The food is all traditional Scottish meals artfully prepared by a very skilled chef. The hostess and waiter were so delightful and helpful in giving suggestions. We wanted to try haggis and this is the place to do it! They even were nice enough to split one portion onto two plates. The beef special that I had was so tender. Whenever you are visiting a city, you must try the tractional food and this is the best place to go for that in Edinburgh!
