Came to Dubh Prais for a special occasion in early December; can only agree with all the positive reviews. From a remarkably pleasant phone conversation to a warm welcome at the small (but perfectly formed!) restaurant, we couldn't have asked for better.

Traditional Scottish fair - chowder / skink and haggis starters, steak and venison, then a cheesecake to share (with an added birthday candle!) to finish and a lovely bottle of wine and superb service throughout - possibly one of the best overall restaurant experiences we've ever had. Can't wait to go back, would recommend it to anyone!

We ate here for Valentines evening and sampled some of the most amazing Scottish food!!
The restaurant is down a set of steps, located in a small 'underground' room. Quite old fashioned in decor but the food is modern and very tasty!
Service was fantastic, very friendly and attentive yet not over-bearring.
All in all a fabulous evening, so glad we sampled it during our stay.
Keep up the good work!

Just got back from a weekend in Edinburgh firstly a weekend is not enough so much to do so much to see and so much to eat.

Thank you trip advisors for recommending dubh prais still can not say it properly but wow what a gem of a restaurant. We arrived and was welcomed and shown to a lovely table in the corner from which we could survey the whole restaurant. The food was excellent - the broth especially and the service was 100 percent. We wanted to eat there again the next night but unfortunately it was full,it is only a small restaurant and they do have two sittings but you don't feel rushed and we found it not a problem. James the owner/chef thank you and your team for a lovely evening well worth every penny

Believe all the reviews below. For the second year running, we had a group meal to mark the New Year and they did us proud. The menu is impressive for a small establishment and cooked to perfection. The friendly staff and owner/chef make every diner feel genuinely valued. And a small point - on a group 'set' menu they offered cheese as a pudding alternative without being asked. Scottish hospitality at its very best!

My girlfriend and I made a reservation at Dubh Prais on the recommendation of a friend - I can certainly see why this restaurant is ranked no. 1!

The setting is rather bizzarre, but only adds to the charm of this place. We were warmly greeted and served by both members of staff working. Both were enthusiastic and clearly wanted to deliver the best dining experience possible.

The food was excellent, a good selection for most tastes and a great way to try some authentic Scottish cuisine. You pay more here than the average restaurant but I'd gladly go back again on my next visit - it really is worth a visit.
