I stayed here a couple of nights in September. At first was worrried that it was not in the city centre but was amazed by the convenience of a very close train station which we could not hear from our room. It is only 2 stops into the city centre and very quick. You can just pay the ticket on the train to the conductor. Where you get off in town puts you right in the centre of everything. It was actually good to be staying out of the hustle and bustle..

The room was very spacious, modern and had very comfy beds and nice linen. Fully airconditioned, had fridge in room, safe, flat screen tv etc..

The staff were just so lovely and helpful. Having stayed in London where they were so rude it was really refreshing.

They have 2 computers with free internet access on the ground floor. Can get a bit busy though, but at least they are there. The hotel has a lovely pool and gym on the bottom floor.

The room service was expensive like anywhere but was good quality.

The best part though for my son and i was the fabulous breakfast spread and lovely dining room. We had stayed at numerous hotels in England leading up to this and this was by far the nicest.

I intend going back to scotland to see more and will use this hotel as a base for a longer stay for sure, i wont even look into other hotels!

Edinburgh is an incredibly beautiful, easy to get around, friendly city.

i booked this hotel thinking it was a tube station away from waverly train station. sure enough it was two stops away but the train was not a tube/MRT, it was like the conventional train, like a DLR in london or an LIRR train in New York which comes only on scheduled times. that being said, if you time it well (the the front desk will give you the times), then there are no issues at all.

the room was clean and had enough space. the bathroom was big enough but only had a shower, no bathtub. there is a cable for internet access for a charge and i did find that my three.co.uk 3g dongle had no signal at this hotel.

there is a tesco grocery store nearby but not much food options. food at the hotel was quite expensive so that is the trade of being far from the city centre.

for those taking the train, to get to waverly from novotel, you have to cross to the otherside of the track. there is no ticket machine and payment is to the collector on the train. to take the cab is around 20mins and will cost around 15£

overall, if the price difference between staying at the city center and here is still big, i wouldnt mind coming back at all

I stayed here as part of a Cosmos tour accommodation, when I arrived we were pleasantly surprised with the size of the rooms and bathrooms as in some places both had been issues.

We had two double beds and a great bathroom that had an automatic thermostat for the shower, there was no trying to get in the bath turn hot or cold water on and try not to slip.

The automatic shower was fantastic set at an automatic 38 degress all you needed to do was push on and a full flood of warm water dispensed from a huge shower head directly over you, of course you could adjust the temperature but when you turned the power off it reset back to 38 degrees.

Stay at this hotel if you can

Functional comfortable room, and a good nights sleep, testament to the efficient double glazing given this hotel is next door to the train track and Edinburgh Park Rail station. Views from the rooms on the rear are of buidling work for the tramline, the railway line and waste land. Was a little disappointed by black marks on the net curtains, and that the bin had not been emptied from the previous guest. Otherwise, everything was just fine. Across the road is a small Retail Park with a Tesco, etc. Be prepared to travel though if you want to head out to eat, there's no where in reasonable walking distance. Makes a good base for business travellers working on the Gyle - £7 cab fare there if it's pouring with rain or you don't want to do the 10 minute walk over the railway bridge at the station. Restaurant food quality was very good (2 courses and a drink less than £25), although it was disappointing that the menu was so limited compared to the excellent market menu available at this hotel's sister location at Lauriston Place Edinburgh.

We arrived early (11:00am) at the hotel for a wedding in the early afternoon, the front desk staff (Rob) couldn't have been more helpful in getting myself and my family a vacant room that we could get ready in for the wedding.

Top marks for the manager in having staff who have a can do attitude to guests.
"it's the small things in life that mean the most"

Definitely stay here again

I stayed here 2 nights on a business trip, as it was close to the airport and didn't charge the exhorbitant prices of the Hilton!
The rooms are modern, flat screen tvs, great showers (no bath), free internet access, spotless. Also a good swimming pool if you want to relax.
I didn't eat here but the bar area was very pleasant. If you don't want hotel food, you can walk to Tescos over the road, which is open until late
Would definitely recommend if you want to be close to the airport or want good road access for Edinburgh

Desiring a hotel with easy road and public transportation access and a place to park our car for the three days of our Edinburgh visit we booked this Novotel. Asking for a quiet room on check-in, we were assigned a spacious executive room on the top floor. It could not have been any quieter.
The room with a modern interior, laminate wood floor, king size bed, large flat screen TV, small couch, desk, fancy coffee making machine, safe, and a stocked mini-bar/fridge was comfortably spacious. With windows spanning the whole of the outer wall the room was very bright during the day and well lit at night, as was the bath. The super modern bath with a large counter with ample space for one's stuff, and a tub/shower combo was spacious and super clean. Terry cloth robes and slippers provided were a bonus and added a touch of class.
The newer hotel had all the makings to ensure a pleasant stay, but its international legion of staff appears to be stretched and/or in need of training or supervision as a number of issues affected our stay negatively.
First, on arrival in or room we noted that the curtain was ripped out of its track over several feet length just hanging down, the in room safe was placed so low that one had to lie down on the floor to face and operate the keypad that is about 6 inches above the floor. Trying to use the coffee making machine, it flashed a message indicating it is out of service, plus one bedside lamp and the floor lamp had no bulb. Returning after our first day of sightseeing between 3 and 4pm, we found our room still not made up. The excuse given was that first priority is to make up rooms of those that checked out, as if all new arrivals would be in before 3pm, yet it was deemed okay to inconvenience guests they already had in-house. After two nights of poor sleep quality on a mattress with hard washboard profile ridges on top, we finally stripped the bed, turned the mattress upside down to the correct positioning and slept fine thereafter. Needless to say, having stayed in Novotels around the world, we had expected better than what we found.
On the plus side, the restaurant served good meals delivered by a friendly staffer, and the breakfast buffet had all one needed to get started, though the staff was stretched in providing service and keeping the buffet stocked with food items.
All considered, should we return to Edinburgh we would not stay here again.
