“One night stay”
Reviewed September 9, 2013

Plus points for the hotel are that it is quiet, parking is free and it is next to the railway station where trains take you in to the centre of Edinburgh in less than 10 minutes. The only real negative was that the bathroom was tired with 2 big chips out of the enamel of the bath. Worth a stay if you are driving to Edinburgh but do not want to drive into the middle of the city.

Me and my husband stayed hear at the end of July 2013 for 2 nights, we decided on this hotel due to it being much cheaper than those hotels offering the same or less within the city centre. We had a brilliant stay and could not fault the service at all.

To find our way to the hotel we used the postcode given by the hotel on the website, which almost got us there (it actually took us to an industrial state around the corner), which was fine just meant we had to drive until we spotted it. We were then pleased to find on arrival a car park around the side of the hotel with plenty of spaces to leave your car secure.

The staff on main reception were extremely helpful, we were greeted straight away and went through the check-in process quickly and smoothly. On booking we had asked for a room on the highest floor as we had read previous reviews and were warned there would be road noise. The check-in staff were very helpful and explained the highest floor were suite rooms only and we could upgrade for a little extra per night, we decided to stick to the standard room, we were then told she could give us a room on the floor below with a lovely view of the castle, which we opted for at no extra cost - very good customer service.

The room was a standard size and did indeed have a lovely view of the city and the castle. Overall we were very satisfied with the room, the bathroom however appeared not to have been finished off, with the walls painted but the previous colour underneath showing through and no lock on the bathroom door, but for what we needed it was fine. The shower however was one of the best showers I have used in a hotel, with a huge round shower head , it also had temperature control and could set your preferences for each person. The room also had a desk area and a seating area, so plenty of room to spread out. There was also free tea and coffee facilities within the room, which was great but we had to go down to reception a few times to get more tea as we were only given two tea bags per day.

The swimming pool facilities were also a very nice extra, the pool was clean and plenty of changing rooms available. The pool was quite small and would be no good if you wanted to do lengths, but for relaxing after a long day it was fine. There was also a nice Jacuzzi area. We went in every evening and each time was very quiet with only a couple of other people using the facilities.

We had Breakfast included in our stay so made the most of this each morning, a great selection from fruit, cereal, yoghurts, cooked breakfast and freshly baked pastries.
On the first night we ordered room service in the evening, we decided to try the freshly made stone baked pizza, which was surprisingly delicious, and brought to our room extremely quickly - excellent service. The second night we ate in the restaurant, we both had the Elements burger with fries. Again great service and very tasty (my husband said it was one of the best burgers he had ever had!!), although we did have to wait for quite a while before being served even though there was only 4 other families seated in the restaurant.

The location of the hotel was perfect for us, just outside of the main city centre, less than a 10 minute drive to the city centre car park and around 5 minutes to the zoo. We did not hear any road noise at all, and we even had the window open slightly one night.

Overall a great stay and would recommend to anyone who doesn't want to pay city centre prices for a short stay with access to a car. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the city centre and castle

This is the second time we have stayed here and, overall, it was another good stay. We were travelling as a family and our two daughters loved the pool, which was relatively quiet whilst we were there. The room was very clean and quiet but a little claustrophobic fro a family. The breakfast was buffet style and we were a bit disappointed in the quality and choice for such a large hotel, considering many of the guests were from overseas. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I am not sure we would stay here again as the price seems to have increased quite a bit for a family room since our last visit and I am not sure it is worth it.

Stayed here last week, just overnight whilst on a business trip. Room was a decent size and the bed very comfortable. Very modern bathroom and all fixtures and fittings of a good standard, including a fab shower. Decent set of TV channels to watch. Room service food was excellent quality. Swimming pool was very welcome to relax into the evening.
Krispy Kreme and a KFC right opposite the hotel and a train station into the city a few minutes walk away. Location is on an office park with out of town shops nearby, If I had stayed longer I am sure the train would have come in handy.
Overall a really great business stay with everything needed for a comfortable night away from home

Can't recommend this hotel enough from start to finish. Greeted at front desk by a young polite lady, checked in and shown directions to the pool facilities & the room. Took the lift to my room and It was immaculate and very spacious. Large bathroom with bath and digital shower head controlled with a remote. Comfy double bed with desk to set-up laptop.
If your willing to do some travelling after a night out in Edinburgh this is the perfect hotel at a good price. Train station is 2 mins walk from reception and they run up until around midnight.
Will definitely stay again. Thanks guys :)

A new tram line flyover is being constructed right outside (a stone throw away). No atmosphere at all. A place to stay with a young family or for those who prefer to be away from the city centre.
Train station 3 min walk & very easy to use. Hotel next to a retail park so very easy to access cheaper breakfast & snacks.
Atmosphere scores zero. There is a pool but with only 3 seats its not really a place to relax. Hotel doesnt pretend to be anything else other than convenient. But as Edinburgh is a safe city to be in and very cosmopolitan a hotel in the city centre would be my preferred choice next time.
