Booked this rather last minute after deciding to go to the Festival for a 2 night break- it was the only hotel for under about £300 a night left - we paid apprx £125 . It's 5 miles from the city centre but couldn't be easier to get in and out. There's a station literally 3 minutes away, trains every 10 minutes or so and it only takes 12 minutes to get to Waverley St Station. It only cost £7.20 return for 4 adults (2 consessions). T^here nis also a csr park which was free. We had to get a taxi back one night and that was £20.We didn't have breakfast - it cost £13+. The room was spacious, comfortable with a good shower - didn't use the pool. Would stay there again.

Room Tip: We had a premier room with bed settee which was a good size.

This hotel is in a great location with easy access to Edinburgh city centre via a train station just five minutes walk away. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. There was a good choice of breakfast. The sauna and swimming pool are a great touch and an excellent way to unwind following a long journey. Would recommend this hotel to anyone planning a trip to the beautiful city of Edinburgh.

Stayed here before always pretty good. Did not get chance to use the pool this time.

New station is 5 minutes walk which is just fantastic as you are in the centre of Edinburgh in 10 minutes.

Lovely clean rooms with big towels.

Great choice at breakfast and very attentive staff.

Always a good experience at this hotel.

Only criticism room very hot and for safety reasons can only open the window very slightly. Does not have air con.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms ending on a 1 as they have fantastic views of Arthur's seat and all the way into...

As others have said, the hotel is of a standard Novotel quality (although the bathroom decor looked a bit "rushed"), and in is a decent location, but is best avoided in the summer.

The air cooling is simply insufficient, not just in the rooms but also in the restaurant. I do suffer from heat a bit, but I was almost unable to finish my breakfast on one morning due to the temperature. No allowance was made for this in the position of the food and drink - for example, butter and orange juice were placed in direct sunlight, with the obvious results.

The staff were generally friendly and helpful; the food was nice enough and was either replenished quickly (as a matter of course) or immediately (on request); the parking is plentiful and free; the pool looks inviting if a bit small (didn't get chance to actually use it) - it's just a shame about the discomfort caused by the heat.

Check in was simple and painless, allocated a room on the first floor overlooking the train tracks, but this didn’t prove to be a problem, as with the windows closed they were barely noticeable. We were allocated a twin room, had plenty of space, the beds were fine (if a little soft) but perfectly fine to get a decent night’s sleep.

The leisure facilities were perfectly fine, the pool was a decent size for swimming, but the gym was a little on the small size, but perfectly usable.

Car parking was not an issue either – and at the end of July 2013 was free. Another plus point, the hotel is a 2 minute walk from Edinburgh Park train station, making driving into Edinburgh unnecessary. Nearby is a big retail park with a Tesco and other eating places.

Room Tip: If a light sleeper ask for a room not overlooking the railway tracks

The staff here are excellent, couldn't be more helpful or friendly and I was impressed that between them they spoke a few languages which comes in handy during the fringe. Clean rooms, very good restaurant and great breakfast buffet. Good transport links
