“Excellent stay”
Reviewed February 4, 2013

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay as a family here. A lot of people seem to comment on the smell of chlorine when you enter and the first thing my little boy said when he walked in was it smells like a swimming pool, but the other 3 members of our family didn't smell it so maybe depends how sensitive your sense of smell is! Staff were pleasant, rooms modern and cleaned to a high standard. The location in my opinion is excellent as I much prefer having hotel parking and being able to take a train into Edinburgh, it is so quick and easy and was only £9 return for family of four.

We ate both breakfast and 2 evening meals in the hotel restaurant, the food was very good but what I thought was absolutely EXCELLENT was the standard and presentation of the Kids meals, so much nicer than chicken nuggets, sausauge chips and beans that is often on kids menu's. The kids meals were very reasonably priced too.

The pool and steam room are brilliant, very nice indeed, the only problem is it can get a little busy, but that is not a fault of the hotel. Would happily stay here again and would choose to eat at the restaurant again too.

We enjoy staying in Edinburgh but taking your own car is a nightmare, bus or train isn't always handy and means you can be restricted to timetables - enter the Novotel, Edinburgh Park.
Located right next to the motorway it is very easy to get there, it is situated in a quiet location near a retail park and most importantly right next to a train station.
Resident parking is free at the hotel.
The first impression on entering the hotel is the stink of chlorine from the downstairs pool (very nice) and spa. That however is the only downside to the hotel.
Once past the lobby the hotel is very nice and excellent value. The room was spacious, quiet, clean and modern. No complaints what so ever.
The big selling point for us was the train station which is a two min walk away. Very frequent trains take just five mins to get you right into the centre of Edinburgh. and cost us £2.50 return. Brilliant.
Staff were very well presented, professional and polite.
Top of our list for our next overnight trip to Edinburgh.

Room Tip: Get a room above the first floor to escape the chlorine smell and the function rooms.

Superb service, great ambience, delightful room with fridge and safety deposit box which is most useful and good nights sleep on comfortable bed. Located right next to a train station that takes you into the city in 12 minutes (and elsewhere) and far enough away from the city to be very quite at night. Restaurant , food and bar very good. Highly recommend this hotel Great value for money for what we paid at the time.

Top marks for this place. Nice warm welcome from the staff.
Room was nice n clean, with a good sized clean shower room. Nice big fluffy towels. The shower I guess was fairly good, I would have preferred something with a bit more force. It was fancy electronic controlled but not much pressure.
I need to find a drawback and its possibly location. If you want a place with great access to M8 for meetings etc its fantastic. If you want to see the city centre it's too far out. Great for airport access too. It's also a bit isolated for dining out, fortunately I really enjoyed my evening meal which wasn't too pricey. Breakfast was good, great selection but marginally on the expensive side. The is a pool but unfortunately I didn't get the time to use it.
For the price it is an excellent place, much better than some other more expensive hotels I've stayed in.

The hotel is located on the outskirts of the city, near the airport, the city by-pass, Edinburgh Business Park, Ingliston Showground and the Hermiston Gate & Gyle Shopping Centres. There is no scenic view however there is free parking, a restaurant, a bar and it has a pool and gym.

There are links to the city centre by train at Edinburgh Park station which is a few minutes walk from the hotel. (You can obtain a timetable at the reception - very frequent service except for Sundays - journey time about 10 minutes, £3 off-peak return, £3.80 unrestricted return). Traffic in Edinburgh is congested especially due to restrictions relating to the continuing tram construction and parking is expensive.

The hotel is modern and is quite nicely designed - the rooms are decorated in a very plain fashion.

We stayed very recently and took advantage of a good rate available a month in advance on the Accorhotels.com website - £63 B&B. At that price the hotel is excellent value.

On this occasion we checked-in early afternoon and made use of the gym and pool facilities which were fine (there are no signs about cleaning the equipment after use however wipes are on a wall dispenser near the window overlooking the pool).

Our room #243 overlooked the new KFC across the street and had the usual facilities including a very comfortable double bed, tea/coffee making facilities, mini bar, a safe, iron & board, flat screen television and a bed settee.

We were dining out in the city centre and were delayed due to some line fault with the trains however it probably would have been no quicker to have taken a taxi. When we returned around 11.30pm the hotel bar area was very busy due to a flight having been cancelled at nearby Edinburgh airport and many of the passengers being put up at the hotel for the night. It looked as if a few extra staff had been brought in to cope with the rush.

We slept well - the room temperature was comfortable and we were not disturbed by any noises from traffic, trains or other guests.

Breakfast is buffet style, although we ordered porridge to start which is an option. Sadly it was half-cooked and lukewarm and we had to send it back. The selection of fruit was a bit limited and the bakery items were needing to be replenished. There was a reasonable selection of hot food although, as with many buffets, some items were suffering from sitting a while. We paid £8.95 per person within our package. Having had evening meals before we know the kitchen can do much better.

Check-out is a very civilised 12.00pm - handy if you are not in a rush to go anywhere.

Can recommend as alternative to overpriced city centre hotels - provided you get a reasonable rate here.

My second stay was far superior to my 1st, check in staff were quick and on the ball, and judged the mood of the customer correctly this time. Food issue at dinner was dealt with in a speedy and efficient manner by the restaurant staff.

The location is handy for transport connections.

The new Novotel is nice new hotel, good food close to the Edinburgh Parkway station. Which is where the problem is. My room faced the railway line and the room had insufficient sound insulation and the high speed train noise was intrusive. Fortunately the HS trains stopped about midnight but restarted about 6.30 then every 30 min.

Room Tip: Not facing the rail line
