“Its good stay in a campus!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2012

The rooms are neat and good even though its small! The price is reasonable and right for the place!
+ the room cleanness.
+ the break fast.
+ the service.
- distance from city centre.
- food choices
- as its campus accommodation hard to find shops and after 7 pm every thing is closed.

Now named Edinburgh Conference Center, the place is inside Heriot Watt University, where I was studying. A lady comes to clean everyday. Facilities are in good order. Check out their website.

I stayed for 4 days in the guesthouse of the Heriot-Watt University.
The service was good, although the building is building looks rather old.
The sleep quality was good, and there was a full Scottish the breakfast included in the price.
The only negative aspect was the distance from the city centre (about 40 mintes by bus). The univeristy is well served by public transport though.
The staff was not not as friendly as somewhere else in Edinbugh.

As others have noted, this is not the best choice if you are looking for a luxurious stay, with close proximity to the city centre. However, it is an excellent choice for the value traveler. I rarely ride buses, but found the bus service from Heriot-Watt to Princes street to be very easy and convenient. The rooms at the university are quite plain and basic, but everything was in good working order, clean and comfortable. My assigned room was a 10 minute walk from the main campus buildings, passing a scenic pond and park area. The students and staff at the university were friendly and helpful in providing direction and advice on getting around. I will definitely consider staying here should my travels take me to Edinburgh again.

good clean hotel . to find your way to reception use car park C which is about 100 metres in just past mini roundabout and follow signs to main reception. If you need to drop your luggage off you can park near main reception at the drop off point for 10 mins.

Room Tip: only problem was in ground floor room when hot if you want window open there is no security catch so...

If you are staying for a conference and want cheap and cheerful this is it. It costs £11 by taxi from the airport or £14 from Waverley or £1.30 each way on the bus the 25 takes you to the door from Princes St.
For £45 or there abouts you get a single room and a hot breakfast in the refectory. The ensuite is a little pod like thing which the shower collapsed on but there is plenty of hot water. The staff are efficient and kind and you feel safe as a single female travelling. It's too far to walk into the city and it wouldnt be through the nicest area.
Mobile phone coverage is patchy but you can receive and make calls from your room, There is a TV and hairdryer now plus tea and coffee making in the room, plus shampoo, soap and a couple of small towels.
It's more than adquate for a couple of nights especially if you get out into the city in the evening.

Room Tip: they are all the same

I have stayed in HW 4 times and I always want to come back. I went there for the first time when I took a summer course and had to stay for 5 weeks. I loved it. Rooms are small but cozy and warm. Housekeepers are very nice, fast and efficient. All buildings have a TV lounge, a kitchenette and some rooms for ironing your clothes. They also have a launderette, which is absolutely useful when you have to live in the university or when you travel with little luggage.
You are also given breakfast tickets which give you access to very good, wholesome breakfast.
The facilities are a bit far from the city centre; however; if you do not mind taking a bus every day, you will not have any problem with this. Besides, the transportation system in Edinburgh is very efficient and even when it was very late I knew I would not have any problem going back to the university.
What I liked the most: the facilities, you have everything you need in the campus, from stores to gyms.
What I liked the least: how far it is from the city centre (min 20 minutes)
