What a lovely Weekend we had. Short trip from Cologne to Edinburgh. Four Days packed with city-adventure and of course three wonderful relaxing nights in a beautifully decorated room. I liked enjoying tea on the sofa after long hours in the city and of course the modern shower. A very tasty breakfast in the cosy breakfast-room started us into the day and that is not always the case for a vegetarian. Full recommendation!

it is a great house for a short stay in Edinburgh. close to the historic center, quiet and really once. The rooms are big. The family room is perfect for a family week-end. The owners are extremely nice and welcoming. The breakfast is extra. well in one word the perfect place to stay.

We spent four nights at the Albyn Townhouse and couldn’t have been more pleased. Lydie (pronounced “Leedy”) placed us in Room 8 on the third floor where we had a panoramic view of the city and the Firth of Forth in the distance. We could crane our necks a bit and get a view of the Castle and the Tattoo fireworks at night. Our room was clean but small by American standards (we stored our suitcases under the bed). The en suite bathroom had limited space for all my wife’s cosmetics, etc. The raised glass shower stall might be difficult to manage for some. As is common in Europe, no washcloths were supplied. Daily maid service was provided. Our free Wi-Fi signal was strong.

One of the best features is their extensive breakfast menu – nearly like a short-order restaurant! Not a buffet either, it’s served off a menu by Lydie’s efficient staff. Try the haggis, just to say you did.

Another plus is the close proximity to neighborhood restaurants and the public bus system. Both are within an easy 10-minute walk. Before we learned of the bus routes we walked into town. It took us an hour at a pretty good clip to get to Waverly Station for our hop on/off bus tour. It’s about a 10- minute bus ride to the Royal Mile.

Lydie makes a prefect hostess – she even helped us lug our bags up the three flights of stairs! Perhaps even more impressive was the assistance she gave us in securing emergency medical care even before our arrival. After we called ahead from the airport at home, Lydie helped us obtain treatment on the weekend for my wife’s injured eye. (BTW, we were impressed with the National Health Service.)

Room Tip: We liked Montpeliers restaurant, about two blocks away. In fact we ate dinner there every night...

Our first impression of Edinburgh was the warm reception received from Lydie and Dave, I don't think I've ever felt more welcome in my life, and that includes family gatherings! Dave took the time to draw all over a map of Edinburgh, showing us both the fast and scenic route into town... then circling all of the attractions we had mentioned we wanted to see. Lydie was delightful, and chatted to us about her paintings (they're dotted all over the house) while we admired the decor in the hallways, also giving excellent advice on what to see/do. They continued to be this thoughtful and attentive throughout our stay, and no enquiry was ever too much hassle for them.

The house itself is beautifully decorated throughout, with an absolutely flawless attention to detail and design. There are personal touches everywhere, and you can tell that the house is loved. It feels like a home, more than a hotel. Breakfast was an absolute breeze, plenty of choice and the service always above and beyond. Once again, the breakfast room was designed beautifully, and has a lovely friendly atmosphere to enjoy.

The bedroom was spotlessly clean, and didn't disappoint. Extremely comfortable, we both had a fantastic nights sleep. The view was impeccable! we managed to snag the top floor, meaning we could see over the rooftops. As always, flawlessly designed and lovingly maintained.

We adored this hotel, and will be booking again when we return to Edinburgh.

Room Tip: The top floor bedroom (7) has a beautiful view over Edinburgh! But honestly, you can't go wrong...

Everything about Albyn Townhouse was exceptional from the booking confirmation to the final check-out. This hotel is managed and run with an attention to detail that you will rarely find in any other hotel - anywhere!! The warm welcome, the décor, ambience, comfort, and cleanliness are all of an extremely high standard but the attentiveness, efficiency, friendliness, and imagination of the management and staff are all above and beyond anything that you would expect. This place is unique and clearly prides itself on providing standards of service that the very best hotels in the world could not emulate. It was also 15 minutes walk from the centre of Edinburgh and an excellent base for exploring the city's attractions.

We stayed two dayes in this lovely house. It was perfekt. Each room was unique, decorated with style and love. The rooms and the rest of the house are very clean. Lydia gave us a warm welcome and was all the time a very nice and friendly host with good advices. The breakfast was fantastic, big choice with lot of homemade stuff (muffins, compot, ...) very delicious.
The best adress to stay in Edinburgh!
Thank you.
