“Don't be fooled - the 5 course degustation menu is really at least 8, as they call the first 3 only one course”

We booked from Australia a month or so in advance and managed to get a reasonable time to start. At Stg55 per head it was quite expensive, but it was really good, if somewhat filling. The course were small, but very good. The highlights for us included the Lindisfarne oyster dill with cheese truffle, beetroot, redcurrant and leek. Later the Scottish hogget, with pink fir potato and ewes curds also hit the spot. That isn't to denigrate the other offerings which were all excellent. The wine list included such wines as an Argentinian sparkling and Falerio and a Catarrato Cello Bianca fro Sicily.
It was a good job that we walked from our hotel as the return walk helped to settle the meal down.

We live very close to Aizle and had wanted to visit for sometime. Booking weeks in advance I could still only get a table at 5.30pm on a Friday. The restaurant is closing for a couple of weeks soon and the set menu is increasing in price to £70 after the summer.

I can’t fault the food. Everything was delicious. In particular the asparagus risotto was amazing. The dessert looked prettier than it tasted but I am not really a dessert fan to be fair.

My husband chose the drink pairing and I would agree with other reviewers that at £40 it is over priced. The cider was a really nice opening drink but none of the wines had a wow factor. And the wine servings are small.

Our bill was £200 in total. Herein lies the problem. While Aizle is lovely you can get food just as good at Sonder in Newington for half the price. And spending £200 I feel takes the restaurant into Wishart/Kitchin price range (and Aizle is too “basic” in some ways to compete with these restaurants).

If Aizle was a bit cheaper I could see us going on a regular basis as we did have a lovely evening. Saying that they don’t seem to have any issue with empty tables.

To travel a little out of the city centre to experience the fantastically prepared and beautifully presented food is no hardship and anyone who doesn't make the effort is losing out. Our small party of five people have been lucky to sample some of the very best around the world and this is in all of their top three. It is a MUST. Food, wine selection and service all first class.

Wow! Six courses some with multiple items and each and every one a gem. This unassuming somewhat out of the way restaurant is superlative. The service was warm, friendly and helpful in explaining what we were about to eat and how to pair it if we so desired.
There is no shortage of food here, the only problem is we would have liked to have had seconds on so many dishes but we would have exploded if we ate (or drank) another thing. We will be back again and again whenever we are in Edinburgh. You should too!!!
