“Broughton a jem in Edinburgh”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2012

We stayed here for 5 nights while visiting Edinburg. We were 6 adults in total and all of us were more than pleased with the stay. Its familiar, warm and friendly and you feel welcomed from the first second. The help and service was at its best and so where every meal. When we are going back to Edinburgh we know exactly were we gonna stay, and thats with Freddie and Fiona at Broughton......

Stayed here for 4 nights on our visit to the Edinburgh festival. Only 10 minutes walf from Princes St, so very good location, being far enough away so that you could get away from the crowds if you wanted. Fiona the main host was very friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts were superb.

Room was very clean, and restocked everyday with tea&coffee etc, Only small complaint was that we had the top floor attic room, so banged my head a few times!!

Room Tip: Avoid if possible the back attic room

Town house hotel. Room size accordingly. No lift. About 15 min safe walking to town center, 20 to the fringe. Situated away from main road. Clean, well decorated and furnished, comfortable, quiet. Tea, coffee, choc. and biscuits in room. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast superb.

Me and my family (6 persons) stayed here for six nights in august 2012. Our hosts Fiona and Freddie were very friendly and helpful, the breakfast was very well prepared and generous and the rooms were alle nice and clean. The hotel is placed in a quiet area of the city, but there's plenty of good restaurant just a very short walk away. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a nice stay in Edingburgh.

We stayed for three nights during a mini break. The hotel is fairly well situated for most of Edinburgh's main attractions and within an easy walk of Princess street and the old town.
We found the hosts to be very welcoming and friendly. They were also able to help us with lots of local knowledge for our trips out.
There were a good choice of breakfasts, with it always being well presented.

The only negative was that we were given one of the smaller rooms at the top of the house. Whilst this wasn't too much of a problem one of the other rooms we saw did seem to be better value for money.

Overall I would recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a relaxed visit to Edinburgh.

Room Tip: The rooms on the top floor do seem smaller than some of the others.

Thanks for that it was a pleasure to be of help regards Freddie & Fiona.

In regards to my previous response I would like to warn potential customers of the "Nigerian Scam" although this is just a name and it can be from any country. It's when you are approached by a third party claiming to offer you a reward if you will allow access to your bank details they in return will deposit a large some of money and you will be given a % of that amount they then go on and empty your account. Another version often tried on hotels is 6 Greek orthodox priests wish to stay full board for 10 nights full board in 6 double rooms for single occupancy with car hire! they have a maximum budget of £7000 that they will deposit in advance in your hotel bank account! again same con different version so clients look out remember "If it's to good to be true! chance's are it will not be true

I tried to make a reservation. I do not own a creditcard and this has been no problem at other B&B's and hotels in Scotland. We made banktransfers.
I called the Broughton Hotel to explain, but the reaction i got "No and if you don't own a creditcard than don't come to the UK" As i tried to give a reaction i heard "byeee" and the man just ended de phoneconnection. I would not wanna stay a day in this hotel, if you can't even be treated properly on the phone.

We do not give out our bank details to anyone for obvious reasons that is why our secure e-mail account was set up! I also advised you that in order to book 99% of hotels/guesthouse's, entertainment venues, restaurants, rail/bus travel, car hire in Scotland they require a credit or debit cards to guarantee a reservation / booking. When you then started to argue with me on this matter I said goodbye and terminated your call. I hope you do take my advice and bring a card?

Have a nice stay Freddie

Me and my father spent 1 night in this little town hotel during our trip through scotland. the very central location and excellent rates made the Broughton Hotel our choice and we were not dissapointed. We were welcomed by very friendly staff, the rooms were clean and comfy and the services provided top notch.
Breakfast choice was fantastic and of high quality!
I can most certainly recommend this hotel to anyone planning a visit in Edinburgh.
