We stayed 2 nights over weekend, excellent breakfast and staff, room was small but we knew before we arrived the size of it, very cosy, the bathroom was superb and everything you needed was supplied the evening meal was first class as was the service nothing was to much trouble for the staff who catered for our every need, excellent bar with a good selection of malt's. Well done Nira Caledonia.

We stayed 3 nights - excellent breakfast and staff. Rooms small and oppressively warm.
About 15 minutes walk from the centre of town. The helpful staff were happy to recommend things to do and help with their local knowledge. Our room was fine but our friends paid the same and had a tiny room. Worth checking when booking

Room Tip: Rooms are all different sizes - don't have number 3 it is tiny! We stayed in room 2 which was of...

What would think of a so said 5* hotel that cannot make sure You have hot water in your room ? No shower, no jaccuzzi ... Breakfast was ok so as clealiness of the room, but crew members at the reception are underqualified for a Slh level. A real deception !

We went in April for our anniversary first impression was it was lovely.stairs leading up to room abit steep, once inside room wasvery nice ,bed was massive and really comfortable, really nice bathroom and coffee maker. its about a 15 minute walk to castle and attractions. Food was lovely couldn't fault it.great if you get a deal but I wouldn't have paid full price.

What a superb boutique hotel and only a stones throw from the centre of Edinburgh. I think we got the deal from Woucher and what a deal it was, champagne and roses on arrival an evening meal and breakfast on a two night stay.
The hotel staff were fantastic always smiling always willing to help with any question or advice.
We would definitely return to this great little hotel.

This place is average, but the for the price it is very very expensive. The location is not central and it is very hilly to walk to the centre of Edinburgh. This, plus the fact that there are no ground floor rooms or a lift should be mentioned as older less fit guests could have a nasty surprise. Parking is also a problem. The service was erratic. Some members of staff were excellent whereas others were dreadful. Especially bad were the people on the front desk. I was totally ignored on several occasions even though I greeted them. Particularly bad was the initial check in. Check in time had been changed from 14.00 to 15.00 apparently so we went and got some lunch. On arriving back we found a whole crowd of people waiting to check in and the man was clearly hassled. We just wanted our key as we had already checked in but he couldn't find it , could not tell us our room number and had lost our luggage we had left. ( It was eventually found jammed behind a chair in the bar area and not, as we were informed it would be, in the front office. In fact there didn't seem to be a front office, just a desk in the hall!) To be honest there was a lot of unpleasantness and the receptionist obviously couldn't deal with it which gave a very bad impression. The room was reasonably well appointed but the design and layout of the bathroom was poor. It was a shame as it was all quite new and hi tec but had limited shelf space, was rather cramped, the shower had almost no pressure and the bath could be used for a whirlpool but was uncomfortable to lie in for a regular bath due to the protruding knobs etc for the whirlpool. We came in late one night after attending the tattoo and wanted a drink. There was no Chardonnay and I was offered a rather expensive glass of flat prosecco. My husband wanted a Scottish beer and was offered a Corona. The breakfasts were good and the cleanliness was ok. There was a problem with some dirty linen which was quickly solved.

I would never visit this hotel again though. The staff need more training especially as most of them are not native English speakers.

It is also very expensive for what it is and definitely not good value for money.

This hotel is one out of the top draw. Location was brilliant close to the centre of town but has its own little restaurants and shops close by. The staff went out of their way to be helpful and again were first class. Food was good and enjoyable.

The only downside was we had a petite room at the top of the building, unfortunately due to the building being a listed building they cannot install a lift. That aside everything the hotel had to offer was fantastic.

Definitely recommend this hotel and if in Edinburgh again will certainly consider staying here.
