This is a lovely hotel. We arrived about 1pm and were told our room wouldn't be ready until 2. Our documents didn't give a check in time however we were fine with the check in time and decided to park our car and walk into the centre only to find that there is no 'on street' parking in the area for over 2 hours. The hotel website does ot make tis clear and advertises 'on street' parking which is ok if you go at the weekend as there is o time limits. As a result of the 2 hour limit, aans we were booked in flr 2 nights, we needed to drive to the other side of the of the city centre to park n a ng stay at park then get a taxi back. On our arrival our room still wasn't ready so we sat in the bar area where Moray offered us complimentary refreshments.

On arriving at our room, in No 8.. The reception is in No 6 and there is a private residence between the 2, we found our room to be quite small however very well appointed with everything we needed... Lovely room. We quickly unpacked then went out for the day.

Up for breakfast and it wa only at tis point that we oticed ow dusty the room was, clearly loking loke it had ot been cleaned proor to our arrival. quite thick dust on the phone, cavinets and mirror. on our way t breakfast we met the head pf pusekeeping and politley asked tha our room be disted only to be told that it had beedone and the dist colects quickly as the windows are old and dont close properly.... really....

Breakfast on both mornings was great, plenty of choice and a well cooked, and presented full breakfast with fresh tea and coffee.

On our return to our rom on the second day, parts of the room had been dusted but the mirror and table lamps hadn't been touched. Also, the bed hasn't been made up, only the duvet thrown back and the cushions had been removed from the room.... Not what you would normally expect from a 5 star hotel.

Our deal included a 3 course evening meal however we decided not to st at the hotel as the choice was bland.. Soup, chicken and ice cream although they did give you the opportunity to order from the Al a Carte menu and pay the difference.. We decided to eat in one of the many great restaurants nearby.

Overall this is a lovely hotel and Moray was great however it really lets itself down wit the pause keeping side of things.

I would stay again but wouldn't only if we clad get a deal again.. I wouldn't pay the full price as think there a ther hotels in the area for similar prices which offer a higher standard of room, service and cleanliness.

I decided to stay at Nira Caledonia because I join the Small Luxury Hotels , but this one is clearly below that standard.
The place is nice and out of the crowded part Edinburg. My disappointment started at the reception. it looks like a Guest House, with a table close to the street, carpet was dirt..... I was sent to 4th floor (really very high....) but no one offered me to help with my luggage. When we went down for breakfast , we had to have all with us, not go back to the Kilimanjaro again. At least a small elevator for the bags would help.
If they give one those high rooms, you better be in good shape.....
I stayed in other SLH during my trip and it was clearly above Nira Caledonia

My husband and I travelled to Edinburgh recently and had a 1 night stay at the Nira Caledonia. The room we selected was an executive room and really lovely! Very large, beautifully appointed and very, very comfortable! The hotel itself is a bit chopped up ... some of the guest rooms are in another townhouse two doors down from the main part of the hotel which was fine in the summer time but could be a bit awkward during the winter months. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and only wish we had more than the one night's stay. We would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: If you can go for the executive room!

My partner and I took advantage of an online deal to stay at the Nira Caledonia and we are so glad we did.
Our room was beautiful with champagne and roses on the bed we felt truly spoilt. The shower room was really sleek and modern. The staff were fantastic and so friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and they are a real credit to the hotel. We definitely want to come back. Highly recommended.

Tasteful renovation of 4 townhouses.
Great location within walking distance of everything in Edinburg.
The only negative was the first night in a very small room facing the garden.
It was very warm and stuffy. When we came back to the Nira Caledonia after a 3 day highlands trip we stayed in a great room, #108. High ceilings and plenty of room for a couch and coffee table.
The staff was very responsive and gracious.
Very romantic place in a great city.

Room Tip: Room # 108 or similar.
