“Hear that Bell!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

A really smashing hotel - very comfortable and in a great location for the town, Ive stayed here a few times and Id recommend the rooms right up in the loft for comfort and cosiness - very plush and top end. However I was placed in a single room over reception on my last stay and could hear the reception phone ringing on and off until well after midnight - nothing coudl be done - just dont get allocated room 1! This hotel is within 2 houses but there is a residential home between the 2 buildings in a row of terraces. On one ocasion I battled with the residential door early one monring to check out, assuming that was the reception, only to realise it was someones house!!

We are regular visitors to Edinburgh....it's our "home" town, so often back to see family and friends....and enjoy the atmosphere of the city.

Seeing an "online deal" for Nira Caledonia, we took advantage, and very glad we did.

The hotel is in Stockbridge...Edinburgh's equivelant of Notting Hill....a great part of the city.

The hotel is "quirky" and well appointed. What makes it excellent, are the staff. Got to sing the praises of the waiters at breakfast time especially.

If you want something different from the normal "chain" hotels....give it a try. It has a lovely charm.

Room Tip: Ask for a larger room than the "mini double". We did, based on previous reviews and got a...

A friend and I spent a night at this lovely hotel. We could not fault it for anything. The hospitality, the staff, the room where actually better than our expectations.
We had read a few reviews previously and where not sure that it was a good decision. We needn't had worried, although I can appreciate that it has been renovated and our room was immaculate,I have nothing to compare it to.
I have stayed In many five star hotels and this was second to none.
Breakfast was fabulous and the variety was amazing.
Thank you to all staff for making our stay a memorable one and we shall look forward to our next visits.

Room Tip: We had a sea view room on one of the lower floors but it was a little noisy, although on the seafront...

Stayed here a few months ago with my girlfriend as a getaway and a chance to see some family. After an innitial confusion of how to get into the hotel (worked late the night before, probly my lack of sleep getting the best of me!) We were greeted at reception and checked in quickly with no hassle at all, we were even given an upgrade to the wilson suit!

The room was incredible, my girlfriend had to essure me that this really was our room! Huge bed, amazing tv, sitting area, jacuzzi bath and a nespresso machiene! The mini bar wasnt overly expensive and even stocked my favourite beer! (St mungo)

The service was very pleasent and i cant critisise the staff at all, working in hotels ourselves we were aware that we may have been a little bit hard work having ordered a couple of room services but they didnt let on at all. My compliments have to go to the night manager who dealt with us getting back around 3am a little worse for wear and took a room service order for breakfast which couldnt have been easy!

I cannot wait to come back, thank you to the hotel for making our trip so special!

Me and my partner stayed at this hotel for 2 nights from 26/07/2013. I had booked it with a WOWcher offer. Arrived at check-in at 1400 with no problems and was in our room within 5 minutes. The room we were in was 1009 and a petite double. The room was ample in size with tall ceilings and just as tall sash window over looking the hotels suites gardens and the city. The room itself was tastefully decorated and equipped with everything you need! Huge T.V with free-view, Ipod docking station, DVD player, Nespresso coffee machine, tea making facilities, still and sparkling water, mini-bar, coat hangers, hairdryer, safe, shoe horn, clothes brush, slippers, bathrobes, toiletries and towels. You can't fault it. Although the bed is only a double, it is very comfy! On our first night we ate in the hotels restaurant. With the deal we had a set menu but was told that we could eat off the main menu and pay the difference (i.e I ordered fillet steak and only cost £3.00!!!) The food came really quick and was so delicious! Breakfast was also really tasty with lots on offer.... Meats, cheese, cereals, fruits, pastries and a cooked menu. Again, the food came out of the kitchen super fast.
As an overview the hotel is beautiful and clean. Our hotel room was topped up with fresh water and coffee facilities were replenished, even received a turn down service!! The food is delicious and all staff were friendly and welcoming. I can not fault a single thing!!!! The hotel is situated roughly 10 minutes from Princes Street and behind the hotel is the Stockbridge area which is very nice.
I'd like to thank all involved with the hotel for a wonderful stay and I would return again without hesitation. The people who have written negative reviews on here have either been very unfortunate or are just nit-pickers!

We got an offer off wowcher for my husbands birthday - 2 night stay, 3 course evening meal one night, breakfast both mornings, roses in the room and a small bottle of tattinger champagne priced @ £159 (or£169)
I upgraded the room for £50 a night to an executive room.
We arrived Friday just after lunch after a 4 hour car journey, parked up and we were greeted by a lovely man on the reception, we were earlier than the checkout in time so he showed us to the bar area. The bar and restaurant area was very small but intimate, staff very helpful, we asked for directions to a cash machine and then again to the centre, very helpful indeed.
Friday evening went to the room tv didn't work so we rang reception came straight down and sorted the problem.
Had a meal in the restaurant that evening - food was amazing. We had to pay a supplement on some foods as were more expensive than the menu that was selected for the wowcher offer but they were willing for you to change.
I had for starters - prawns in wasbie sauce and crisp salad
Main - lamb cutlets (however this wasnt served with anything and all sides are extra)
Served with chips and spinach with pancetta -amazing
We were so full we didn't manage dessert.
Had a couple of drinks then went to bed.
Next morning breakfast was delightful - full English, mug of tea with toast and orange.

Food - exceptional
Cleanliness - poor in some
Areas could have been better.
Was very put off that the main hotel toilet was shared.
Also soap suds were still on the wall in the shower area in our room for previous guests.
Staff - very helpful & pleasant,
However all foreign and didn't always understand what was being said.
Location - fantastic

We stayed here December 2012 and we had a lovely experience. A beautiful georgian bulding, this hotel is situated in a quaint Georgian quarter of Edinburgh. The hotel interior was beautiful and the room we had was very classy, we loved it! It was very cosy, smelled fantastic and the view looked out onto the lovely Georgian buldings opposite. It was decorated lovely for Christmas. The food was good and staff were very friendly. We would definately stay here again for a short break in Edinburgh. The building is located about 15 minutes walking distance from Edinburgh's city centre and the castle.

While we were there we visited christmas markets, art galleries and did a lot of shopping. Edinburgh is beautiful at Christmas. Even throughout the rest of the year, Edinburgh is a lovely place to visit; lots to do and see and some fantastic restaurants. We stayed the year before in April and we still had a fantastic time.

We would recommend the Witchery for a really special meal. It is expensive but outstanding. The Brewdog bar is also worth a visit or two for top quality beer and a great relaxed atmosphere.

Thank you to the Nira Caledonia for making our special trip have that little extra sparkle. We will see you again this year I am very sure!
