Jim and Olive offered warm and comfortable hospitality. They were gracious in offering suggestions on activities, directions and basic helpful tips. Breakfast was a delite. Jiim made an extra effort to greet each of us each morning by remembering our little favorites. The food was delicious. The bedrooms were lovely. We especially enjoyed the gardens.

We will be back..

My husband and I stayed here for three nights on a visit to Edinburgh for a friend's wedding. The room was a really good size and nicely furnished, with a large and well-appointed bathroom. The building was also lovely. Good breakfast, welcoming and efficient hosts. We lost our front door key at the wedding (not drink-related - I was six months' pregnant!) and had to wake the lady of the house up to get in at 2 in the morning, and she was completely understanding about it. We really couldn't fault the place, and at £80 per night it was good value as well.

It is a 25 minute walk to the main sights, but regular buses go from within 50 metres of the house.

This was our first experience with B&B accommodations while traveling and we were a little unsure of what to expect. However, this place was great. The room was large and comfortable, the breakfast great, and the hosts pleasant and helpful (guiding us to some nearby restaurants to eat after a long flight and giving us the details on where to catch the bus into town). This is not in the "heart" of the city, but instead on a quiet side street. It is however only a two minute walk to the bus stop where you can easily catch one of numerous buses which go directly downtown about 10 minutes away. A shared computer is available for Internet, but I don't think there was guest wifi (I used a local BTopenzone single day/pay access point instead which worked fine).

In contrast to the previous review, my wife and I had a wonderful stay at Ard-na-said in Edinburgh. We were clear about our arrival time and, although we were an hour early, they still met us and let us check our bags while we roamed the town.
Our room, the Wallace, was the largest we would see at a B&B in our two week trip through the UK. Check out the tour on their website.
It was clean and quiet. The en-suite bath was very new looking. The breakfasts were well-made. (No ants in ours!) We had a nice view of Arthur's Seat from our room. Later, we had a nice view of our room from Arthur's Seat. But that's another story.
We liked the location, in as much as it was removed from the traffic of nearby Dalkeith Road, yet it was only a few minutes on one of the frequent buses to get to the heart of town.
No regrets. I'll stay there again if I return to Edinburgh.

When we booked the trip, we stated on the form we'd arrive 'after 3pm'. When we arrived just before 6pm the owners had gone out and locked the door, leaving a note telling us to collect the keys from across the road, there was no one in there either. So we waited in the carpark for half an hour, then went into the city, having popped our tel no through the door asking them to ring when they got back. An hour later we hadn't heard anything so decided to try again. The man across the rd let us in, and said that he did tell them he wouldn't be in before 7pm.

The next day they saw us at breakfast, and the guy that owns the place was extremely rude, no apology for locking us out. Told us that we'd said we'd book in at 3. We said that the website had stated 'AFTER 3pm' and 6pm was not an unreasonable time to turn up, and they could've rung us to say that they'd be out. He told me that "after 3 could mean anything and he did have a social life".

The breakfast the day after, there was an ant in the honey and the milk in the porridge was off. They gave us a £4 discount on the £160 we'd paid for 2 nights for the breakfast disaster, but no mention of a discount for leaving us locked out with no warning when we arrived!.

The lady was really nice and did apologise about the ants and sour milk in the breakfast, but her husband is obviously in the wrong job and hates the guests.

ABSOLUTELY AWFUL SERVICE. WILL WARN ALL MY FRIENDS TO AVOID THIS PLACE IN FUTURE.

This review is neither accurate or fair,We always ask our guests when they expect to arrive as being a house ownwer we often require to go out and if so we can make alternative arrangements as we did in this case. These girls however did not turn up till 4 hours after the time given as they had decided to go shopping instead. If they had only phoned to advise us of this we would have been able to make other plans.
They also failed to mention that thay were in our best room and were given a discount to compensate for the minor problems.
We did try our best with these guests and feel that the low rate they gave in comparison with others is a bit nasty.

My brother and I recently stayed at Olive & Jim's guesthouse for a long weekend and had a wonderful time. Their place is comfortable, clean, tidy, with a lovely garden and in a perfect location for seeing all the sites without having to spend a fortune on transport. Breakfast was nice too, with a variety of options available. They do a lovely traditional Scottish fried breakfasts (including a good veggie version).

Olive and Jim were friendly, attentive and helpful.

Thanks for a lovely stay. We couldn't have asked for anything more!

We enjoyed out stay and woould definitely return to the Ard-Na-Said. The bedroom and bathroom were clean and spacious. Nicely decorated. Had on-line computer available for guests - a nice plus.
